Summary

The principal role of the Department is to support UK companies exporting to foreign markets by providing insurance, loans and guarantees against non-payment or non-performance by UK exporters and overseas buyers. To perform its statutory function, UKEF must assume significant credit risks on behalf of UK exporters. Consequently, the financial success of the Department is crucially dependent upon sound credit risk assessment. The Risk Approval Division (RAD) is responsible for providing probability of default (PD) ratings and loss given default (LGD) assessments on all risks assumed by the Department.

Job description

RAD’s case work is split into four main teams – corporate & aerospace, project finance, financial institutions and sovereign. This Senior Credit Risk Analyst (SEO) role will operate in the financial institutions team, working for the Grade 6 Head of Financial Institutions. SEOs develop high quality credit risk assessments of proposed transactions and existing exposures. They produce reasoned and evidence based written arguments to justify their proposed credit ratings (Probability of Default and Loss Given Default) and must be able to robustly defend their analysis in discussions within the division, with Business Group and at Enterprise Risk and Credit Committee (ERiCC), with the support of the Team Head if necessary.

They are responsible for managing the case work assigned to them and for maintaining professional relationships within Risk Management Group (RMG) and relevant stakeholders, keeping them informed of progress and issues on case work.

Responsibilities

Main Activities

1. Production of annual credit rating and LGD assessments for all Aircraft Operating Lessors, possibly emerging markets focused and higher risk.

2. Ensuring proposed business is within UKEF risk appetite.

3. Liaising with aircraft operating lessors, Export Credit Agencies, aircraft manufacturers and on occasion representatives of UK and foreign government / international agencies, often at senior management / ministerial level, to understand business and transaction structure.

4. Participation on client or investor calls.

5. Production, in collaboration with other RMG divisions, of industry and sector reviews and outlooks and consequential potential input into Portfolio Reviews.

6. Continued close collaboration with external rating agency analysts and associated policy professionals to ensure UKEF maintains best practice.

7. Active contribution to the ongoing development of UKEF credit risk policy including updates to existing policies and continuous improvement of internal process efficiency.

8. Generous collaboration and pro-active engagement across both RAD and the wider Risk Management Group including Portfolio Management and Special Situations, to support delivery of sound credit monitoring and a no-surprises risk culture.

9. Providing credit risk analyst support outside of core aircraft operating lessors across the Risk Management Group, where demand requires.

10. Ensuring appropriate environmental and social credit risk factors are considered within the credit analysis and recommendation.

11. Training and up skilling more junior analysts (and non-analysts) as required. Where appropriate, day-to-day management of junior staff within the division.
