We are looking for a Senior Control Systems Engineer to join our NS&E team at the Reston, VA location. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is a self-starter and enjoys challenges in a growing business environment.
Role Overview:
Reports to a Senior Engineering Group Supervisor or Project Engineer; additional duties may include technical oversight of Control Systems design engineers.
Responsible to produce high-level conceptual drawings and task execution documentation within the Control Systems discipline.
Properly interprets and applies codes & standards, customer design requirements and scoping documentation, for the preparation of Control Systems design documents.
Achieves and promotes continuous work process improvement.
Champions non-proprietary electronic data interchange and integrate automation technology where practical.
Must express thoughts and ideas clearly and concisely, both verbally and written.
Demonstrates leadership qualities with emphasis on continuous improvement and team building, and interpersonal communication skills.
Responsibilities may include, but are no limited to:
Review of and input to P&ID’s.
Preparation of system design descriptions.
Preparation of logic diagrams and functional block diagrams.
Preparation of instrument and control valve datasheets.
Preparation of specifications and material requisitions.
Selection of instrumentation and control valves based on system application requirements.
Review of vendor drawings to ensure proper interface and compliance with the technical requirements.
Programming of DCS and/or PLC.
Development of Human Machine Interface (HMI) displays.
Conducts checking of discipline deliverables, as required.
Review of other engineering discipline drawings and close coordination with other disciplines and functions.
Preparation of instrument index and I/O list using automated tools, using supplier inputs, as applicable.
Basic Qualifications:
Level 1: BS degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Computer or Electro-Mech Engineering from an accredited institution with 6 years of relevant experience; or 12 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree.
Level 2: BS degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Computer or Electro-Mech Engineering from an accredited institution with 9 years of relevant experience; or 15 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree.
The candidate must be a US citizen.
Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
Must be able to obtain a site security badge for access to worksites.
Must have 6 years of experience in Control Systems Engineering developing documentation for Conceptual, Preliminary and Final Design.
Minimum Qualifications:
Hands-on Microsoft 365 office suite, VISIO, and other computer programs.
Extensive knowledge and application of Codes and Standards.
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, along with effective presentation skills.
Must have the ability to achieve a Professional Engineer's license within one year of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
Level 1: MS degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Computer or Electro-Mech Engineering from an accredited institution with 4 years of relevant experience.
Level 2: MS degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Computer or Electro-Mech Engineering from an accredited institution with 7 years of relevant experience.
PE Registration.
Previous Bechtel and/or DOD or DOE project experience.
Familiar with the design of nuclear facilities.
Lead or supervisory experience.
Previous experience in the review, selection and procurement of instrumentation and valves.
Previous PLC programming and HMI development experience.
Previous experience creating control logic diagrams.
