Senior Construction Manager

Bechtel’s Infrastructure Global Business Unit is recruiting for several upcoming positions on projects in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The projects are in various sectors and locations however the primary focus is on Civil works and Telecommunications outside of London and the South-East of England.

Typical Responsibilities

·       Responsible for the delivery, coordination and control of several multi-disciplinary working fronts within a scope or geographic area including cost, schedule and overall productivity

·       Leads HSE implementation and ensures all work is carried out in adherence to a Zero Accident Philosophy

·       Responsible for contractual duties in relation to issuing design to subcontractors, reviewing programmes, reviewing performance, certifying payments and assessing compensation events for time/cost

·       Owns the long-term relationships at an operational and strategic level with subcontractors and external stakeholders

·       Leads the implementation of the quality program and ensures documentation is handed over within agreed timelines and to the required standard

·       Accountable for handover to Operations & Maintenance

·       Works closely with sub-contractors and stakeholders to identify and mitigate operational challenges

·       Develops, implements and ensures adherence to policies, procedures and related work rules

·       Responsible for hiring highly capable and effective people to deliver high performing teams  

·       Coach, mentor, motivate, and supervise team members and contractors, and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned duties

Job Complexity

·       Works on issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of organisational objectives

·       Implements strategic policies when selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results

·       Establishes and assures adherence to budgets, schedules, work plans and performance requirements

·       Recognises that erroneous decisions will result in critical delay(s) in schedule and/or unit operations and may jeopardise overall business activities

Scope of Leadership

·       Manages the work efforts of supervisors or individual contributors

·       Responsible for staffing decisions and performance appraisals

·       Makes decisions based on business objectives and allocated resources

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

·       Bachelor’s or master’s degree (or international equivalent) and typically 12+ years of relevant experience or 16+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree

·       Experience of leading multi-disciplinary teams

·       Commercial experience using revenue models, profit and loss and cost-to-complete projections

·       Understanding of UK HSE and CDM regulations especially in relation to working in locations that interface closely with the public

·       Strong leadership skills and ability to manage a diverse team to achieve results

·       Excellent communication skills and ability to present to senior management, clients and stakeholders

·       Ability to negotiate suitable outcomes that mitigate project risks

·       Experience of working in a live operational environment
