The Trust are planning to make significant investment in our amazing heritage waterways over the next decade which means we have a number of new engineering opportunities to offer engineers who are keen to advance their careers in a waterway environment. Our Engineering teams are key in supporting the vision and delivering our Waterways and Wellbeing strategy across England and Wales, ensuring our national waterways, reservoirs and infrastructure are managed and maintained as well as new developments and improvements are in place for our visitors, customers and services users to benefit from.
We currently have a fantastic opportity for two Senior Concept Engineers within our Concept Engineering Team, both roles are permanent and will cover the national network between them.
The ideal candidates will enjoy solving challenging problems using both their experience of tried and tested solutions as well as new technologies, in a way that offers the most efficient solutions for the Trust.

Location & coverage
Our Engineer vacancies will be offered on a remote working basis, with a requirement to attend our main hub spaces as and when required for team working and collaborative meetings. Significant travel throughout the National Waterway Network will also be expected to enable site visits and meet with Regional Teams and Stakeholders.

Knowledge, Skills/Qualifications & Experience
Our Engineers are important to the success of the Canal & River Trust; these roles will involve working closely with the Trust's Asset Sponsor Teams to understand the project requirements and constraints, determine repair options and cost estimates, undertake cost benefit analysis and working collaboratively to agree which option is to be taken forward through project delivery.

Key Accountabilities
Review of background and supporting information for multiple projects across the Trust's network.
Information gap analysis and collation of additional information through research of freely available information and speaking with internal (Trust) and external specialists and stakeholders.
Undertaking site visits.
Considering conceptual options that are appropriate and proportional to each individual project.
Preparing cost estimates for each concept option using the Trust's cost estimating tools.
Assessment of concept options, risks and opportunities and preparing summary reports for review by the Project Sponsor.
Design and specify engineering solutions and, where required, act as Principal Designer or Designer for the works, (in accordance with CDM 2015).
Lead discussions with the Project Sponsor for each project to confirm which Concept solution is to be taken forward to the Trust's governance Gateway 2 approval.
Assist in the preparation and delivery of presentations of the preferred concept solutions at Governance Gateway 2 using the Trust's templates.
Finalise the project brief in accordance with the agreed / approved Concept approach at Governance Gateway 2 and pass to the Trust's PMO (Project Management Office) to instigate the delivery phase of the project.
Help collate and record any lessons learned during the Concept Engineering phase of the projects.
Knowledge, Experience & Skills
Technical
Professional qualification in a relevant technical discipline, i.e. HND or Degree in Civil Engineering (Essential)
Incorporated or Chartered Engineer or equivalent demonstrable experience (Essential)
Membership of relevant professional body at an appropriate level e.g. MICE (Desirable)
Relevant experience of delivering complex engineering or concepts
Experience of engineering design and construction preferably in a water environment
Experience in assessing infrastructure risk, preferably within the water environment
Knowledge and understanding of historic infrastructure and the natural environment
Evidence of Continuous Professional Development
General
Experience of working within a diverse and multi-disciplined project team
Able to review conflicting (and cross-functional) risks making appropriate judgements to establish and communicate appropriate order
Able to effectively communicate with internal and external contacts.
Has a good standard of written and verbal communication and proven ability to present technical data to non-technical audiences
Proficient in the use of a personal computer and business applications software e.g. MS Office. Experience of GIS or mapping systems
Confirmation of right to work in the UK (without sponsorship)
Valid driving licence, the role will require reaching locations not easily reached by public transport. Access to a vehicle is essential.
