Job Description
What you’ll be doing:
- Supporting growth and transformation initiatives, understanding the profile of the business area, the strategic goals and develop, agreeing and delivering an operationally aligned commercial plan, to support business aims for account development and transactional business growth
- Partnering and collaborating with senior management teams and internal/ external customers, stakeholders and delivery partners where appropriate, to provide pragmatic and viable solutions to commercial issues that arise.
- Assisting the growth, sales and business development teams to secure profitable and deliverable new business
- Assisting and providing commercial oversight in deal shaping, negotiations & contracting for significant deals
- Ensuring all customer and supplier bids/ contracts are approved and reviewed in line with deal approval governance, including international work, and policy prior to submission/ signature
- Identifying, managing and reporting on key commercial/ legal risks and opportunities
- Provide client contract briefings and assure commercial obligations during contract lifecycle
- Supporting the business by owning and performing the ongoing admin of contracts (including the provision of contractual templates/ tool kits, and delivering notices) and promoting standard contracts where possible
- Supporting & advising on commercial issue resolution and disputes, lead settlement negotiations and define and record settlement terms (except in case of formal dispute/ litigation)
- Acting as a direct specialist point of contact to the business on all commercial matters
- Developing business relationships with client-side procurement/ contracts functions
- Providing your own insights to the Education & Learning Commercial Director and leadership team of changes in the regulatory, commercial and market environment that present opportunity or risk to the sector businesses and their plans
- Being seen by the business as a trusted and responsive partner to assist with ad-hoc contract queries and advice
- Managing change control on contracts to maximise the commercial opportunities
What we’re looking for:
- Experienced commercial individual who has track record in negotiating and managing highly complex and/ or highly strategic contracts and business development opportunities in the private and public sector
- Has extensive commercial and contracts experience and demonstrable track record of owning and delivering contract close, mobilisation and post-contract commercial activity, including:
- Defining/ advising commercial strategy for new opportunities
- Managing the commercial viability of bids and proposals, addressing risk vs reward
- Leading negotiations encompassing multiple disciplines including supplier negotiations and flow-downs
- Delivering contract specific and generic commercial awareness training to non-commercial functions
- Managing client/supplier relationships and expectations on commercial issues and change control
- Detailed knowledge of contract law and its application in a government contracting environment, particularly with regard to intellectual property rights
- Working knowledge of intellectual property rights and GDPR
- Strong understanding of financial modelling, contract pricing and differing pricing models
- Collaborative working style focussed on engagement and driving to outcomes:
- A growth ‘enabler’, with a creative instinct to resolve issues to facilitate growth
- Strong & confident communicator able to successfully engage and influence at all levels of an organisation, internally and externally
- Champion for both the account and the Commercial function

- Deals with conflict in a positive manner and without damaging relationships, demonstrating resilience and a high degree of commercial technical knowledge/ business acumen to advise and guide senior managers.
- Uses data for decision making.
Desirable
- Industry Standard and/or Professional Body accreditations desirable (e.g. IACCM, ICM or MCIPS)
- Experience in learning and/ or education sectors highly desirable
- Experience managing significant public sector contracts
