The Silicon Engineering and Solutions team is seeking passionate, driven and intellectually curious engineers to join our Central Front-End SoC Tools, Flows and Methodology team. As part of this team, we seek to hire an individual to lead the development and become the owner of our Global Component Libraries. These Front-End components libraries serve many purposes, they are used: to create hand-crafted critical data and control path structures, to provide specialized circuits for use in sensitive clock networks, to provide a one-stop-shop for standard design structures, and finally, to swap simulation behavioral RTL with technology specific RTL. In this role, the individual will support our entire silicon organization to develop state-of-the-art SoCs to advance Microsoft’s hardware road map. If selected, you will: 

• Be part of a central Front-End methodology team developing advanced components for global Front-End libraries such as: datapath and control path, CDC and Clock, Error Correction and Detection, as well as decoders, fifos, arbiters, etc. 
• Collaborate with the design community to develop components to meet their needs and to understand their timelines.
• Consolidate, review, and enhance existing elements from across all areas of hardware at Microsoft.
• Optimize elements for performance.
• Develop a verification strategy for each element in each library.
• Maintain documentation and testplans for each element.
• Collaborate with the Back-end team on a strategy to map each element to a given technology library at each new technology node, then ensure equivalence across all views.
• Mentor and lead junior team members as well as student interns. 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• BS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering. 
• 6+ years of experience in digital design.
• Expertise in logic design, including RTL coding, RTL simulation, gate-level simulation, verification, synthesis, equivalence checking, timing closure, x-propagation and coverage.

Preferred Qualifications: 

• MS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
• 10+ years of relevant experience.
• Direct experience designing and optimizing Front-End library components.
• Direct experience mapping behavioral RTL elements to advanced node technology libraries.
• Deep knowledge of front-end tools (Verilog simulators, connectivity tools, CDC checkers, low power static checkers, linting, etc). 
• Knowledge of protocol bridges, hardware managed coherency, and/or bus protocols a plus.
• Knowledge in designing error detection and error correction logic a plus.
• Expertise in Computer Architecture, as well as CPU/SoC design principles
• Expertise designing clock crossing structures and clocking components. 
• Strong ability to write scripts using Perl, Tcl, Python etc. Python preferred
• Experience with all associated tools, flows and methodologies. 
• Exceptional organization, verbal and written communication skills.
