The Compliance function is a Second line of defence (LOD) function, responsible for reviewing and challenging the activities of the Group’s businesses (also referred to as “the First LOD”) to ensure that they effectively manage, as “Risk Owners”, the Regulatory and Financial Crime Compliance risks inherent in or arising from the conduct of their activities and for which they are responsible. The Second LOD consists of 'Risk Stewards' who are independent of the commercial risk-taking activities undertaken by the First LOD. The Compliance function is a Risk Steward for a number of non-financial risks in accordance with HSBC Group’s risk framework.

We are currently seeking an ambitious individual to join our team as a Senior Business Analyst, working together with colleagues to define, manage and achieve divisional business targets.

Role Purpose

This new fixed-term contract team will be responsible for the management of various Compliance service processes on behalf of Mexico, ranging from Transaction Screening Tuning Processes, Testing and Assurance, Quality Assurance and List Management processes. Combined, these functions form part of HSBC's continued drive to ensuring compliance with all sanctions & non-sanctions regulations and developing the highest and most effective standards for the Risk & Compliance function.

The Compliance Officer Team Lead’s role is to provide SME functional and analytical support for the day-to-day BAU operational support of the Mexico Compliance services. The role holder shall have a grasp of the processes and services undertaken by the Transaction Screening Tuning Processes, Testing and Assurance, Quality Assurance and List Management teams and should comprehend the stakeholder impact of the various services provided. On top of the above, the ideal candidate will require the day-to-day management of supporting a team of six GCB6 Compliance Officers as well as reporting in to Senior Management within the Compliance Function. This role will operate within a challenging environment across numerous different roles and functions, working to tight timeframes as well as dealing frequently with demanding stakeholders.

In this role, you will:

  • Maintain and reconcile requests to add, amend or delete list items to internal watch lists in line with changes in Group Sanctions Policy.
  • Ensure that all Group Sanctions watch list instructions are compliant with current global and local Mexico regulations and policy standards.
  • Perform quality checks on all processes above which will be undertaken by members of the team, collating and reporting feedback where required.
  • Perform local Testing & Assurance activities to support the global team, this will involve reconciliation exercises and manipulation of data to ensure screening effectiveness. Furthermore, may be required to support larger scale project work.
  • Produce high quality, informative Management Information for presentation at Risk & Compliance forums.
  • Assist with future training of the role to new and existing team members where required, as well as maintenance and updates to key procedure documentation.
  • Provide key support to GCB6 colleagues and plan, coordinate and oversee their day-to-day roles and performance while working closely and providing a key link with senior management.

Requirements

To be successful in the role, you should meet the following requirements:

  • Understanding of the Sanction Screening processes that are adhered to by HSBC, as well as having desired knowledge of OWS, Firco, LGE.
  • Understanding of Sanctions and Regulations and the impact that they have on the bank.
  • Knowledge of 3 Lines of Defence.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills at all levels up to senior manager/director level.
  • Have strong analytical, numeric and problem solving skills.
  • Have the ability to build effective relationships.
  • Be proactive and aspire to excellence.
  • Experience within Risk & Compliance areas is advantageous.
  • Experience in managing people or team-lead skills are also seen as advantageous.
