The AI and Data Sciences team in Microsoft 365 Security and Compliance organization is looking for an experienced, energetic, and hands-on Applied Researcher.

Our security group focuses on protecting customers against social engineering attacks such as phishing across our browsers, email, and chat – and within this charter, web scale machine learning is a fundamental part of how we protect customers, with an advanced M365 Defender suite.

The compliance group focuses on developing advanced intelligent systems to help various enterprises protect, govern, manage risk, discover, investigate and respond with relevant data, which is foundational necessity as the enterprises are facing exponentially growing data, expanding to clouds and ever-growing data regulations.  The compliance group delivers the intelligence behind Compliance suite for Microsoft 365 customers, with intelligent technologies providing world class, enterprise data loss prevention, eDiscovery, auditing, information protection, information governance, regulations, and privacy solutions. 

We are seeking an experienced an applied scientist to build and expand our cross-service, signal-based protections using state-of-the art techniques spanning the areas of supervised and unsupervised machine learning.  We are looking for candidates who are passionate about leading and pushing forward the cutting-edge technology and the state-of-the-art solutions.

• Explore and correlate large data sets to uncover gaps to protect customers from social engineering threats / providing intelligent experiences in the compliance systems using a broad range of data science and machine learning approaches in collaboration with product and engineering leaders. 
• Implement intelligent models to understand and improve quality and effectiveness. Continuously drive a closed loop on data driven insights, customer experience towards upstream investments. 
• Define processes and automation for expanding and running the protection in auto-pilot mode. Innovate and develop advanced training data generation methodologies 
• Collaborate with other researchers, engineering, design and program manager teams to drive the solutions driven by data insights.  Work with customer experience teams for design iterations, and customer issue investigation and response. 

• Provide technical leadership by reviewing problem sets, proposing prediction models, and reviewing experiments and models for the fellow scientists on the team 
• Contribute to the AI innovation and build thought leadership via publications/patents and presence in industry/academic conference 

Qualifications

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional experience in a technical role building and deploying ML solutions at scale for real-world problems  
• Proficiency in using statistical/analysis/ML tools, defining, and implementing intelligent solutions on data. Experience with deep learning applied to areas such as graph learning, IR, NLP, computer vision, etc., are preferred. 
• Skilled working with large data sets, using big data tools and scripting languages such as: Excel, SQL, Python, Matlab, R, C#, and/or PowerBI. 
• Bachelors/Master’s degree with relevant course work toward Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Machine Learning, Data Mining, and equivalent work experience.   
• Excellent cross-group and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate solutions.  

• Additional experience in any of the areas like cyber security, fraud detection, regulations, business processes in enterprises, legal discovery, etc., would be beneficial, but not mandatory.
