As a senior you will improve the effectiveness of the Engineering function and interfaces with other functions to provide effective coordination of metrics, dashboards, functional processes, and cross-functional initiative coordination.

Baker Hughes has an opening for an Additive Manufacturing Process Engineer to build technical expertise in new technologies, processes, and inspection capabilities for the Enterprise Additive Manufacturing (AM) Technology Center. This fast-paced group produces products using AM methods and provides technical and manufacturing support for Baker Hughes through creative AM solutions. This position is an integral role within the Technology Center to accelerate AM adoption and optimize the productivity, reliability and safety of various processes and machines. The role requires a strong understanding of metal powder-bed fusion technology, operational experience, design, and material science background.
 

As a Senior Additive Manufacturing Process Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Work with external and internal customers, engineers, and scientist to lead and drive the development of additive manufacturing to address customers’ needs and opportunities by selecting the right AM technology, supporting design and material development efforts
  • Support build job preparation, machine programming, and operation of additive manufacturing metal systems
  • Constantly develop and optimize additive manufacturing processes by improving the productivity, reliability, safety, and sustainability. This includes exposure parameter and material development as well production and workflow optimization
  • Apply Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) principles, iterate designs, support qualification and release of AM products
  • Research new manufacturing technologies and introduce promising technologies to the AM Technology Centers and enable applications as relevant
  • Stay current with industry trends and market information on AM
  • Work with and evaluate new softwares specific to the AM workflow process
  • Work with vendors and contractors as needed for on time completion of projects

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Have minimum Bachelor´s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field from an accredited university with emphasis in Metal Additive Manufacturing Technologies
  • Have minimum 5 years of experience developing additive manufacturing processes, machine operation and printing parts
  • Have experience with CAD (i.e. SolidWorks, NX) and CAM (i.e. Magics, Build Processor, NX)
  • Have practical experience with SLM machines, ideally from the following OEMs: SLM Solutions, EOS and Concept Laser
  • Have demonstrated achievements in materials and process development for Selective Laser Melting machines by developing or modifying exposure parameter and machine characteristics
  • Have strong analytic and problem-solving skills as well as hands-on operation
  • Have experienced with Non-Destructive-Testing/Evaluation methodologies, Computed Tomography, and optical scanning
  • Have experienced with Additive Manufacturing prediction model tools e.g., Additive Science
  • Have effective teamwork abilities with strong interpersonal skills
  • Have proven ability to think customer-first and effectively prioritize and pivot as required
