We are forming an applied rapid response team (ARRT) under Microsoft Industry Solutions Office of the CTO (IS-CTO).

 

We are searching globally for senior technical Advisor with hands-on software development experience and who can be considered subject-matter experts in one or more of the following technology domains: large scale systems {resilience}, security and privacy and related standards.

 

It is a unique opportunity for a candidate who enjoys combining her/his technical skills, industry dynamics,  and proven record producing software solutions with impact on businesses and individuals.  You will be considered an expert in one or more technology domains (relevant tech examples are listed above), who can rapidly recognize how to apply their specialized knowledge in a wide range of industry scenarios. 

 

ARRT is the home of senior technical teams who are together forming unbiased technical advisory functions anchored around applied industry experience. 

Responsibilities

ARRT is the home of top senior architects who will be primarily driving internal (to Microsoft) and external (to Microsoft's customers) business values; see details below.  Secondarily, becoming a hub for unbiased technical advisory with unmatched applied industry depth. 

 

To Microsoft, ARRT will:

  1. Serve as impartial, cross domains, cross-industries, technical advisors to IS-leadership.
  2. Lead response to complex customers' escalations, normally triggered by executive requests.
  3. Drive Truth of Microsoft industry solutions by engaging in developing a set of Microsoft partnerships with strategic customers (pre-sales).
  4. Effectively, share learnings and applied knowledge through IS-CTO communities and solutions kits.

To Microsoft's customers, ARRT will:

  1. Lead a response team connecting top Microsoft expertise and resources to help solve customers' complex problems. Help customers achieve business plans, and help mitigate risk.
  2. Foster confidence and trust in Microsoft's ability to deliver solutions, that enable customers to become comfortable and more assertive with their future transformation plans

 

A typical day of an ARRT architect involves a combination of:

  • Managing escalations, analyzing situations, coordinating appropriate resources to resolve issues, and engaging in conversations with internal / external stakeholders.
  • Collaborating with internal stakeholders in the pre-sale process by understanding business requirements and providing industry and technical orchestration to help shape the deal. Supports drafting proposals and/or statement of work (SOW) integrating innovative solutions and technologies from Engineering and Microsoft Research.
  • Participating in project planning and developing project documents while identifying the risks and dependencies. Communicating the business value of planned solutions to customers/ partners.
  • Orchestrating solutions implementation, identifying gaps, aligning opportunities for differentiation and engaging Microsoft orgs while adhering to Microsoft processes.
  • Aligning solutions with the intent of future repeatability.
  • Proactively managing executive-level customer/partner/stakeholder relationships to identify and contribute to the drivers of satisfaction and dissatisfaction. Determining the root cause, and establishing recovery actions to improve experience.
  • Sharing lessons learned with IS-CTO communities and contributing to solution kits.

 

Intellectual Property Management

  • Acts as an ambassador in consumption of intellectual property (IP) by leveraging and/or modifying existing IP or creating repeatable content where applicable. Provides feedback on Managed IP for continuous improvement, reports IP gaps, reviews IP to be considered for harvesting and curation and ensures it is logged for consumption. Improves Managed Standard Offerings (MSO) quality and collaborates with portfolio and solution teams of the domain by providing feedback.

 

Business Development

  • Identifies opportunities to differentiate Microsoft's solutions and products as part of specific industry scenarios, look for ways to expand or accelerate the adoption and consumption of the cloud and Microsoft technologies. Drives innovation and digital transformation. Ensures the use of existing intellectual property (IP).

Qualifications

You should have professional hands-on experience with a proven track record of successfully shipping solutions to production systems, including a strong foundation on practical scale considerations such as performance and manageability. Good command of a second language, and experience working across multiple cultures internationally are preferred for the position.

You should have strong problem solving and data analysis skills to solve real-world problems. A postgraduate degree in Computer Science, or Applied Mathematics, and hands-on experience in computer systems, Machine Learning, or Multimedia Analytics/Processing are common among candidates for this role.

You are expected to be familiar and comfortable with leveraging open source code, GitHub resources, and the adoption of agile methodology in DevOps environments.

 

Demonstrating good business acumen supported by formal education (e.g. MBA) is a plus.
