The Department

FMR Equity is a wholly owned subsidiary of FMR LLC that provides investment management services to clients through Fidelity’s distribution channels. With over $850 billion in assets under management, the FMR Equity team of investment professionals evaluates, constructs, and manages investment portfolios for millions of fund shareholders.

The Position

The Sector Specialist will report to the Director of Sector Research. They will work closely with the director, as well as with analysts in their assigned sector; playing a vital role in contributing to the investment performance of the firm. The Sector Specialist provides general research support to the Equity Research Analysts and associates on the investment teams. Responsibilities include gathering important industry data, graphing industry trends, streamlining data collection and processing, and helping analysts and associates with various projects to support stock-specific and industry presentations. The Sector Specialist will also work closely with other sector specialists, industry sources and Wall Street contacts, market data and research services, and the technology end user development team in order to gain important insights, knowledge, and tools to provide the highest level of support to the research process.

Additionally, the ideal candidate should have a demonstrated leadership/initiative in studies/extracurricular activities as well as an academic/intellectual interest in markets. They should possess excellent communication, presentation and writing skills and be able to clearly articulate research findings. This role requires someone who is hard working, hungry to learn and achievement- and results-oriented.

Qualifications

We are seeking candidates who have the following characteristics:

Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem solving skills

The ability to work independently as well as in a team environment with multiple analysts

The ability to coordinate multiple simultaneous projects

Experience in sourcing, manipulating and presenting data

Strong Microsoft Excel skills including macros and an aptitude for technology

Experience with Bloomberg and FactSet

Demonstrated experience/interest/skill in quantitative analysis and research

The ability to work with external information sources (analysts, companies, consultants)

Programming experience in Python or R required
