Position Summary
We have an opening for a senior scientist to carry out food fermentation for a range of processes aimed at enhancing food nutrient and flavor profiles. This role will assist a team with strain screening, fermentation process development, and product characterization! It will also engage with project management.
Job Responsibilities
• Act as a major contributor to develop creative and innovative nutrients enriched food products via fermentation
• Work in close collaboration with food scientists and food application teams to develop fermentation processes and characterize products
• Work closely with engineers to establish commercially viable processes
• Interpret experimental results, draw conclusions, contribute recommendations and communicate with project stakeholders
• Organize and maintain the strain archive
• Work in an aseptic manner and maintain a clean workspace
• Develop protocols and create corresponding documentation such as SOPs and Job Safety Assessments (JSAs)
• Conduct basic maintenance of fermentation and analytical equipment
• Contribute to continuous improvement efforts on execution of experiments and laboratory safety
Skills and Proficiencies
Skills and experiences required or useful:
• Educational background: Bachelor or Master of Science, PhD in mycology/microbiology, food science, fermentation science, or related field
• Industry experience: BS 10+ years, MS 5+ years, PhD 0+ years working on fermentation or cultivation of fungal strains
• Experienced with food fermentation
• Familiar with food nutrition, food safety and regulation
• Experienced with project management using stage-gate methodology
• Solid background in research and development with excellent critical thinking, data analysis, and problem-solving skills
• Preferred candidate will have industrial experience, demonstrating delivery of value to the business through execution of projects
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to write clear and concise reports, and prepare well organized presentations to audience with different backgrounds
• Demonstrated ability of working with diverse, multidisciplinary teams
