The Immunology, Cardiovascular & Fibrosis (ICF) Thematic Research Center (TRC) at BMS is one of the fundamental units within Research & Early Development (R&ED) delivering therapeutics to patients. Our mission is to create transformative medicines of tomorrow based on the cutting-edge science of today. We are currently seeking a highly motivated scientist with expertise in various aspects of immunology, molecular biology, and drug discovery to join our Discovery Biology, Immunology team.  The candidate will focus on drug discovery within the area of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, which includes (but not necessarily limited to) target identification, target validation, elucidating drug mechanism of action, molecular basis of disease states & the assessment/development of novel cellular therapy modalities to support drug development programs.  As a team member, the ideal candidate will work in close collaboration with colleagues from different functions to build and expand our innovative and life-changing therapies for patients with auto-immune diseases.  The desired candidate must demonstrate strong technical expertise & understanding of molecular & cellular biology and immunology.  This individual must demonstrate sophisticated scientific thinking, be detail-oriented & have the capacity/eagerness to rise to challenges.  A strong work ethic, good judgement, and the ability to work equally well in a team or independently are key qualities in the desired candidate.

Job Requirements:

This position requires a Ph.D. degree in the field of biology, immunology, or related scientific discipline with ideally 1-2 years of post-graduate training or industry experience or an MSc degree with at least 6+ years of relevant post-graduate experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop therapeutic hypotheses for autoimmune disease(s) based on literature discoveries, in vitro experimental data, in vivo animal modeling, immunological evolution, genetics, clinical data, and technological advances.
• Collaborate alongside a cross-functional team that includes immunologists, chemists, computational chemists, biochemists, in vivo biologists and proteomics experts to discover new targets, derive new biological mechanistic insights, and support programs as they move through clinical development.
• Learn, develop, troubleshoot and execute cell line-based and/or primary cell-based experiments (mouse, monkey and human) such as genetic manipulations, western blots, immunofluorescence, flow cytometry, ELISAs, immunoprecipitation, qPCR, RNA-seq, etc. to drive early discovery efforts.
• Design sophisticated cross-disciplinary experiments within project teams to enable the progression of therapeutic candidates through the drug pipeline.
• Excellent communication, record keeping, presentation, collaboration and organizational skills are required.
• Travel will be less than 5% of the time

Qualifications & Experience

• Research experience in inflammatory & autoimmune diseases, molecular immunology, immunometabolism, infectious diseases, neuroimmunology and/or cancer immunotherapy is highly desirable.
• A clear track record of scientific accomplishment.
• Extensive hands-on experience in tissue culture handling of cell lines and/or isolation, culture, and characterization of primary immune cells from human or animal tissues is required.
• A sophisticated understanding of experimental design and the ability to identify scientific problems as well as potential solutions.
• Evidence of sustained independent thought as well as creativity in developing unique scientific ideas/technologies.
• An ability to analyze large multi-dimensional (e.g. multi-OMICs) datasets is desired, but not required.
• Excellent organizational, record keeping, oral and written communication skills
