The Analysis and Insight team is critical to the success of Strategic Planning & Stress Testing. The team will work in partnership with senior management across the Group and will be supporting commercial, capital, strategic decisions through insightful analysis. They will operate in an exciting and challenging environment, providing guidance and analysis to the firm's decision makers. They will also gain close interaction with key stakeholders across the business divisions, back office functions and regions.

We are currently seeking an experienced individual to join this team in the role of Scenario Analysis Manager - Strategic Planning & Stress Testing.

The purpose of the role is to coordinate Valuation 3 for Core Finance, and execute Valuation 3 activities to deliver financial information to assist the board with decision making through a resolution scenario. Both aspects of the role are critical for future attestations of HSBC’s Value in Resolution (ViR) capabilities to the Bank of England. The role holder is responsible for the production of forecast financials, and equity valuations to support restructuring decisions and management actions, alongside corresponding insightful financial analysis and commentary to support the bank through resolution.

In this role, you will:

  • Coordinate Valuation 3 for Core Finance to ensure timely and complete submissions to RAF command and control and Group governance;
  • Lead the execution of Valuation 3 runbooks to support annual attestation of sufficient ViR capabilities to the Bank of England;
  • Support the Head of ViR in providing insight to Group CFO / GRC / ERRC during ViR exercises, to inform decision making for resolution;
  • Prepare and review of all Valuation 3 reporting to the Independent Valuer and Bank of England to support attestation of capabilities;
  • Provide the analysis and infrastructure to support the development and delivery of robust Top-Down Guidance for the annual ViR cycle;
  • Represent Group across HSBC, influencing key stakeholders, attending various Working Groups and Committees for ViR, Resolvability Assessment Framework (raf), and the forecast;
  • Work collaboratively with Stress testing, Planning, Finance and Risk to support these teams in performing their tasks for ViR;
  • Ensure compliance with Group Standards Manuals and the appropriate Functional Instruction Manuals;
  • Support the maintenance of the Valuation 3 control framework and Valuation 3 outputs to ensure submissions are made in a timely manner, are accurate and adhere to high standards;
  • Balance additional regional requests against a Group view to standardize and simplify the MI that is provided;
  • Manage increasing regulatory demands for information, and specifically forward-looking information, while maintaining quick team turnaround;
  • The role holder will continually reassess the operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology;
  • The role holder will implement the Group compliance policy by containing compliance risk in liaison with Global Area or Local Compliance teams.
 

Qualifications

 

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • Significant experience working within financial services industry with exposure to senior Finance and non-finance staff;
  • Demonstrates business analytical and forecasting experience showing understanding of what drives the reported numbers;
  • Excellent delivery skills and has experience in delivering financial regulatory reporting and running regulatory exercises e.g. stress testing in large and complex organisations;
  • A strong understanding of financial statements, finance processes (e.g. budgeting, planning, forecasting, cost / revenue allocations) and finance systems, preference for a candidate with a professional qualification / certification;
  • A drive for excellence and continuously looking at ways to improve processes and outputs;
  • Ability to identify and articulate issues, but more importantly offer innovative and practical solutions, and drive through their execution in a collective and timely manner;
  • Good understanding of the regulatory and legislative framework;
  • Proven relationship management skills in dealing with all levels, with the confidence to interact with senior management and make measured decisions;
  • Excellent communication (written & verbal), planning and organisation skills;
  • A self-starter who is not afraid to speak up and face a challenge; also open to listen to guidance and learn as they go;
  • Exceptional drive and commitment; ability to work and thrive in a fast changing, results driven environment; and proven ability in handling competing priorities;
  • The role holder will also be expected to demonstrate the following core HSBC skills: Growth Mindset, Act with Purpose, Empower our people and Deliver at pace;
  • Prior experience of working with offshore/satellite teams is desirable.

The base location for this role is 8 Canada Square, London.
