Job Description
Key job responsibilities include:
- Manage sales & use tax compliance process, including working with outside service providers
- Reconcile and maintain the sales and use tax accounts on the general ledger and prepare required journal entries
- Resolve internal and external customer sales and use tax issues and questions
- Coordinate sales and use tax audits: gathering supporting documentation, researching issues, negotiate and recommend the best settlement positions for the company
- Advise management of sales and use tax impact on business deals and transactions
- Monitor sales/use tax developments and law changes affecting the company
- Manage customer sales tax exemption certificate process and use tax process for operations in NY and other states
- Comply with Sarbanes-Oxley 404 documentation and process requirements
- Streamline and sales and use tax processes by challenging status quo to provide efficiencies while maintaining compliance with tax laws
- Establish relationships with key stakeholders to provide the advice on day-to-day activities and other key initiatives
- Responsible for business licenses and assist in various other non-income tax compliance
- Research and implement sales and use tax savings opportunities
Experience Required:
- Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or other business-related fields, CPA preferred
- 5-10 years of experience working for large multistate corporation
- Hands-on experience with sales and use tax compliance, research, and accounting
- Experience managing sales and use tax issues for a manufacturer
- Strong organization and communication skills
- Highly motivated with excellent technical and analytical skills
- Experience in other non-income taxes and related compliance
- Team oriented and deadline drive
- Proven process change agent
- SAP/Vertex TDM or comparable systems experience a plus
