Role Summary
The Safety Management System (SMS) Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) Specialist I supports SMS and ASAP program at Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air As an individual contributor, this role focuses on The Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) program which is an integral part of the risk, compliance, and safety reporting culture for licensed employees (e.g., Dispatchers, Pilots, Mechanics etc.). ASAP is one of the main avenues (and an anonymous avenue) to which employees can report issues, incidents, safety hazards, etc.
Key Duties
Facilitates ASAP program, Event Review Committee (ERC) meetings, report processing, action item tracking, and communication.
Provides input on program requirements and procedures based on FAA guidelines.
Maintains good working relationships within the company, the FAA, and with union representatives.
Promotes SMS by facilitating the development of tools and techniques that strengthen safety assurance and safety risk management.
Under the direction of the ASAP Manager, performs Safety Risk Management (SRM) assessments of ineffective risk controls, new hazards, process and procedure changes, and other required SRM triggers.
Emulates the safety team key competencies: safety advocacy, professional curiosity, analytical approach, personal accountability for results, credibility with peers, subordinates & leaders, and thoughtful and effective communication skills.
Performs continuous analysis of ASAP data to identify trends, safety concerns, and effectiveness of safety risk controls.
Serves as the primary focal for tracking, analyzing, and communicating ASAP metrics.
Prepares analyses of ASAP reports and advises the Event Review Committee (ERC) of safety trends for use in corrective action recommendations.
Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills
Required
2 years of aviation experience in any of the following areas: aviation safety, or airline operations or military aviation experience.
Ability to confidently lead weekly meetings which include members from the FAA, union(s), and company managers or directors.
Effective communication skills (e.g., verbal, written, and listening).
Detailed oriented and highly organized, with ability to multi-task and work independently with limited guidance in a fast-paced environment.
Strong analytical skills.
Able to balance competing demands while producing quality results in a fast paced environment.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum age of 18.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred
Knowledge, training, or experience in one or more groups covered by ASAP: Pilot, Flight Attendant, Dispatcher, Ground, Mechanic, or extensive ASAP experience.
Subject matter expertise on the Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) as detailed in FAA Advisory Circular 120-66, the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), and other FAA guidance.
Knowledge of safety reporting in general and Safety Management System (SMS) goals.
Proficiency using the following AAG databases: JCTE Crew scheduling, FOGS, and TRAX.
A Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree, with a focus in aviation safety or a related discipline.
FAA certificated airman or military equivalent preferred - commercial/ATP, airframe/mechanic, dispatcher, etc.
Proficiency with Tableau.
Statistical analysis experience and skills.
