As part of their digital transformation strategy, VirginMediaO2 has established an Automation Centre of Excellence (CoE) to execute the automation of their customer-facing and back-office processes. These business processes must be executed faster with the aid of Automation toolsets, with accuracy and in some cases, in real time to support end-to-end digital customer journeys. The Automation CoE is responsible for the automation of VirginMediaO2 processes to support this strategic initiative.
From this perspective, the Automation CoE is a critical capability which will enable the business to transform its business model and support digitisation and vast operational efficiencies.
About the role
The Automation Environments Engineer will be accountable for ensuring that all the required IT infrastructure is ready and standardised across all environments for the Automation CoE projects. You will be accountable for co-ordinating the implementation of Infrastructure changes and provide updated asset information regarding all Automation implementations.
Maintaining the appropriate Automation footprint and Automation toolset versions is critical to this role as well as co-ordinating the necessary activities with key third party delivery teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Key interface with IT partners to ensure: Automation IT infrastructure for both cloud (Azure) and on premis datacentres is ready and standardised across all environments
- Co-ordinates Infrastructure changes + facilitate change control for all environments + produces CAB updates as appropriate
- Responsible for deployments undertaken in structured and appropriate manner
- Co-ordinate set up of additional Automation toolsets (e.g.: OCR, BPM, Machine Learning, IVA) for proof of concepts, primarily integrating with the VMO2 labs team
- Ensures IT security, BCP and DR best practices followed across all Automation environments
- Ensures the Automation environments are synchronised with all other VMO2 environments from an OS and application version and patching perspective
- Co-ordinates the capacity management of all Automation environments based on regular monitoring of performance and capacity and cognisant of upstream Automation candidates that will impact the Infrastructure footprint
- Produces and optimises the Automation environment enablement process to ensure development activities can commence in a timely manner
- Maintains and manages the environment criteria and ensures all infrastructure and applications are set up in anticipation for development
- Manage and co-ordinate relevant patches and upgrades from the Automation vendors
- Manage and maintain the Jira + Confluence tools and any additional DevOps tools that are introduced, for the Automation CoE
- Ensure NFRs are considered when configuring the number of Digital Workers for NFT
- Request via Infra + Azure teams: Code repository set up for Federated Automation Team and users and project
- Provide education session to Federated Automation Team on how to use repository
- Communicate Automation Naming standards, and nomenclature
- Determine users and add to appropriate Automation users’ groups within the Automation estate.
- Ascertain business user profiles to be used for process
- Create profiles (request via Front door for each Application)
- Request the creation of any new database schema - Automation Team to manage this process.
- Create Automation BOT ID and system profile to be managed via the Automation Control Tower
- Automation project Team to manage and create Federated Automation Team developer profiles + approval
- Provide overview of governance model to Federated Automation Team and business
- Incorporate Federated Automation Team and project into the governance model
- Ensure checkpoints are established for Automation configuration (configuration and Dev standards) and docked into Design Authority
- Request access to downstream applications – Bot user profile
- Send off ANC request for IP firewall changes for accessing downstream application
- Ensure all Automation teams (core and Federated) have been communicated the Security Best Practice guidelines

- Good working and practical knowledge and experience of Automation toolsets (primarily BluePrism)
