About the position
We began the search for a professional Research Associate in statistical data analysis for the ''Cassava Program''at The Alliance. The position is for a highly motivated and self-starting scientist with the ability to manage and analyze the data from field trials, the postharvest quality lab, and the genetics lab, in particular working closely with the Cassava Breeding lead to evaluate breeding populations, develop data curation and analysis pipelines, and provide training in statistical analysis. The person will have access to the genotypic and phenotypic data of the diverse population in the Genebank and the large and unique breeding populations at the Alliance. The incumbent will show the ability to work independently in managing and analyzing phenotypic and genotypic data in the Cassava Program. Experienced scientists and the Cassava breeding lead will provide training and career development support. While primarily having a geographic focus on all of Colombia the position is also expected to contribute to the agenda of CIATs global cassava breeding program in Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia, and sub-Saharan Africa.
Key Responsibilities
• Curation and analysis of historical data in the past 50 years from the Cassava Program, including yield trial data, quality data and genotypic data• Work closely with the Data Manager to identify and correct errors and add meta information to the database• Interact with field team, quality lab, and genetics lab to analyze the phenotypic and genotypic data, interpret the analysis results, and generate reports for group discussion and scientific publications• Deeply involved in the development of analysis pipelines for genome-wide association and genome-wide prediction• Develop the standard analysis pipelines for yield trial data, quality data, and genotypic data, and provide internal or external training for capacity building• Travel occasionally to various research sites

• Professional in Statistics, Math, or related data analysis careers. Studies in plant breeding or statistics (desirable)• At least two (2) years of experience in managing and analyzing data from field trials or laboratory (e.g. chemical composition, functional properties or sensory analysis datasets of food products)• Basic understanding of plant breeding and genetics, principles of experimental design, management of plant breeding data and field plot techniques in an agricultural research setting• Registration of international peer-reviewed scientific publications is an advantage• Programming skills in ''R'' or ''Python''BenefitsTerms of employment This is a national recruited positionThe initial contract will be up to one (1) year, subject to a probation period of two (2) months and is renewable depending on performance and availability of resources. This position is graded at a level BG06 in a scale of 14 levels being BG14 the highest level.
