Job Description

Innovation to deliver novel nutritional solutions for cats and dogs is a key driver of growth for Royal Canin.   Regulatory & Public Affairs maximizes opportunity & minimizes risk by guiding business decisions based on scientific & regulatory insight to ensure the freedom to launch these new innovations. The Regulatory Scientist will develop and implement the US regulatory strategy for novel ingredients and products to ensure successful and timely launch in the US.  This role will work closely with the global R&D and regulatory teams to design appropriate studies and prepare regulatory submissions.  The regulatory scientist will also interact with US government officials to clarify and detail the data submitted to support regulatory submissions.  This role will collaborate across functions and with ingredient suppliers to prepare, file, and track regulatory submissions.

What are we looking for?

  • 5+ years of experience in writing regulatory dossiers and/or completing studies required for regulatory dossiers.
  • Knowledge of AAFCO regulations and FDA laws.
  • Ability to work independently without close supervision, meeting deadlines and demonstrating strong problem solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build and leverage networks.
  • Proven experience in building cross-functional bridges to create awareness and ensure compliance is implemented.
  • Ph.D. or equivalent in a technical area, such as food science, veterinary medicine, food safety, chemistry, toxicology, nutrition, or other biological science preferred.

What will be your key responsibilities?

  • Collaborate with the US regulatory team members to develop regulatory strategies for key innovation projects.
  • Design regulatory studies to support novel ingredient approval and partner with R&D, regulatory science coordinator and ingredient suppliers to complete required studies.
  • Provide scientific expertise to ensure all US required studies meet US regulatory requirements and that the study reports accurately convey the information as needed for US regulatory submissions.
  • Prepare regulatory dossiers for submission and manage any questions from US government officials.
  • Ensure R&D teams have a full understanding of how US regulatory requirements will impact overall project timelines and resources (i.e., due to need to register novel foods/ingredients, changes in production line/manufacturing equipment, final product compliance, and ensuring health claims are substantiated.
  • Lead key AAFCO or regulatory initiatives to drive dialogue and mitigate risk to the business.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required to develop regulatory dossiers and communicate complex scientific data clearly and concisely.
  • Provide information, contributing to the monitoring of emerging trends and regulations in the industry through engagement in trade associations and regulatory/compliance monitoring.
  • Responsible for building knowledge and capability of organization in compliance, innovation and public affairs.
  • Develop external relationships needed to ensure the strategic objectives of projects are met.
  • Good communications skills, cross cultural communication skills.
