Job Description

Core Responsibilities:

  • Compliance Program Implementation:
    • Provide leadership for implementation of the Company’s Ethics and Compliance program in EMEA and promoting the Company’s culture of integrity.
    • Provide oversight of and support in the implementation of compliance policies, guidelines, and procedures and design and deliver compliance training.
    • Advise members of the business on compliance-related issues and explain compliance matters in a concise and pragmatic way.
    • Implement a trade compliance program to address the specific risks of the Emerging Markets region in EMEA and work closely with the business to establish trade compliance-related procedures in day-to-day business dealings
    • Assist with the generation of reports on compliance-related metrics as well with reports on the effectiveness of the Ethics and Compliance program globally.
    • Report updates to the  Global Compliance Officer, and Ingredion EMEA Senior Leadership regarding priority compliance issues, notable investigations, trends, and relevant metrics.
    • Participate in Global and Regional Compliance Committee meetings and report updates to Compliance and Regional Leadership.
    • Partner with and support the Global Compliance Officer and Regional Compliance Counsels to ensure consistent application and implementation of the Global Ethics and Compliance program in the EMEA region.
    • Monitor developments related to compliance, anticorruption enforcement, and other compliance-related matters, and escalate updates with team members and other stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Due Diligence and Risk Assessments
    • Partner with third party due diligence provider to oversee implementation of Ingredion’s third-party due diligence program and engage internal stakeholders to ensure coordinated management of third parties across the region.
    • Work with the Global Compliance team to develop and implement global policies and procedures related to third party due diligence.
    • Conduct appropriate due diligence assessments of suppliers and business partners, especially those deemed higher-risk.
    • Partner with a cross-functional team to complete compliance projects that mitigate Ingredion’s overall legal and regulatory risks.
    • Partner with business, legal, and compliance colleagues to conduct semi-annual compliance risk assessments and assurance activities.
    • Prepare clear and concise compliance reports in a timely manner.
    • Engage with outside auditors in support of any compliance-assurance activities, as needed.
  • Investigations
    • Lead and conduct internal investigations of allegations of non-compliance, including document review and analysis, interviews, media research, and email review, and leverage other investigation resources as needed, as well as develop findings and create a final report memorializing the investigative steps and conclusion.
    • Supervise/coordinate with other corporate investigative teams, including Human Resources and Internal Audit, among others.
    • Assist Global Compliance Officer and Regional Compliance Counsel to coordinate the effective resolution of investigations and remediation plans (with inputs from other key stakeholders).
    • Actively manage and oversee investigations handled by outside counsel, including by engaging in regular contact with outside counsel, auditors, consultants and vendors as needed.
  • Trade Compliance
    • Provide legal support and analysis on a wide variety of global trade and complex compliance matters with a focus on U.S., EU regulations, including export controls, customs, government reporting, antiboycott compliance and sanctions.
    • Counsel senior leadership, legal professionals and other executive management on trade compliance issues.
  • Commercial
    • Review and draft commercial agreements specifically in relation to customers/distributors based in high-risk regions/countries.
    • Provide legal advice on other matters impacting our commercial and trade issues business, specifically in high-risk countries.
    • Coordinate with Regional Legal Counsel on legal and commercial matters as needed.
    • Cooperate with Regional Legal Counsel to draft standard templates and provide compliance-related input to these.

Qualified candidates will have:

Mandatory requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree; J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school or a comparable German legal degree
  • Currently admitted to practice law in Germany, admission to practice in a country in Western Europe will also be considered;
  • Minimum 3-5 years of legal and compliance-related work experience, including experience with two or more of the following areas: anti-bribery/anti-corruption regulations, anti-competitive behavior, data privacy/protection, fraud-related issues, cross-border investigations and business/commercial crime, experience in developing and managing trade compliance programs;
  • Experience conducting and/or participating in investigation interviews or depositions;
  • Experience drafting investigation-related documents, including interview memoranda, document review protocols, investigation reports and presentations;
  • Fluent in German and English, spoken and written;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Desirable requirements:

  • Additional compliance-related certifications, such as CCEP
  • Additional foreign language

  • Demonstrated ability to manage large, complex, international programs and effectively communicate standards of conduct, legal principles, and behavioral expectations to members of the business and senior leadership.
  • Strong note-taking, writing, editing, and analytical skills, including a command of grammar and style conventions;
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks;
  • High degree of ethics, integrity, discretion and professionalism;
  • Highly motivated, self-starter willing to meet strict deadlines and time constraints;
  • Strong leadership presence and ability to manage people and projects effectively;
  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently and work as part of a team, able to build relationships across and outside the department;
  • Ability to communicate effectively to a diverse audience at multiple levels within the Company and in various formats;
