Avery Dennison is seeking a Project Leader to join the Label and Graphics Materials Group North America team in Mentor, Ohio supporting the R&D Specialty and Durables product development team. In this role, the successful candidate will bring passion and determination to product development and complete work with perseverance and a sense of urgency leading cross-functional project teams to meet business needs for incremental revenue, cost reduction, business continuity, and quality in a leading company where individual and team success are recognized and rewarded.
Crucial duties and responsibilities:
Responsible for all aspects of the execution of assigned projects including developing detailed work plans, schedules, project estimates, resource plans, budget and status reports
Lead the rapid and detailed execution of high-profile cross-functional projects
Conduct project meetings to ensure cross-functional teams meet or exceed anticipated project benefits timely, within budget, and with a high level of quality
Identify and resolve issues proactively and balancing schedule, scope, and cost constraints creatively
Handle interpersonal dynamics within project teams to build consensus, determine changes to project plans, and hold team members accountable for delivery on commitments
Work effectively with internal and external clients, third party vendors, and senior management in accomplishing project objectives
Work with management teams to translate strategic objectives into executable projects, and to develop plans for achieving stated objectives. Provide executives with project risk assessments and summary level project status reports.
Build institutional knowledge by systematically collecting, detailing, and disseminating lessons learned from previous projects and initiatives
Integrate “standard methodology†tools, techniques, and frameworks from recognized industry leaders and Avery Dennison Corporate into a unified project management methodology that is custom-tailored to business needs
Transfer capability by: serving as role models on the projects they lead, delivering focused training as necessary, and mentoring other project leaders
Help infuse process focus, systems thinking, and critical tools deep into the organization thereby improving company’s capacity for effective and efficient project management. Identify and share innovative ways to reduce project implementation timeline and cost of project development.
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Material Science, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering subject area is required. Master’s degree preferred.
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is preferred
4-5 years project management experience.
Experience leading projects in packaging industry preferred
Good facilitation, relationship building, communication and problem solving skills
Good project management skills with knowledge of Project Management tracking software
Detail oriented; strong analytical and organizational skills
Comfort and confidence in interacting with / presenting to all levels in an organization
Good eye for business
Ability to influence effectively without authority
Propensity for identifying issues proactively, making decisions with incomplete information, and driving action
