About the team

The Network Evolution and Radio team is responsible for the short to long term evolution of the radio network to ensure the current and future coverage, capacity and service needs of the customer are met.

Within Network Evolution and Radio, the Coverage Modelling Team is responsible for providing the necessary coverage, mathematical & geospatial models to evaluate and guide this evolution, ensuring the radio network provides the service customers require whilst minimising the costs to provide such a service.

About the role

You’ll be key in providing radio propagation and coverage planning expertise. Plus, you’ll be an expert user of the Atoll radio planning tool, including the Automatic Cell Planning functionality. With these skills you’ll be influencing the evolution of the radio network, supporting investment strategies, leading on radio evolution projects, and supporting large strategic and regulatory programs.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as the technical point of contact for:

1. Radio coverage propagation models
2. Atoll coverage predictions

• Create Atoll sessions that accurately reflects the live and planned radio network, predict and export coverage plots for use by the wider Coverage Modelling Team.
• Ensure Atoll is configured correctly for existing and new radio technologies.
• Validate the accuracy of coverage predictions against drive log data. Recommend and implement changes as required.
• Run the Atoll Automatic Cell Planning function to support strategic investment modelling.
• Provide technical support to bid teams and network strategy work.
• Support key radio network deliverables such as the Shared Rural Network and 5G rollout.
• Maintain an accurate view of the live and planned network, including forecasting of planned activities.
• Develop and modify processes to increase efficiencies.

What We Need from You:

Essential Skills:

• Proven experience in a radio planning role.
• Highly proficient with the Atoll radio planning tool, including the Automatic Cell Planning function.
• Technical understanding and experience of link budgets, propagation models, planning data and coverage assessment methodologies.
• Knowledge of the 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G RAN.
• Experienced user of GIS software (QGIS/MapInfo).
• Competent user of RAN OSS and Network Performance Management software.
• Ideally have radio planning experience of supporting large and complex RAN network deployments, such as the Shared Rural Network, SMIP and ESN programs.
