- Quality Technician – 2nd Shift Assembly

Summary of Position: This 2nd shift position works with the Outboard product lines and reports to the Quality Engineer. The main role of this position will be to maintain quality control testing procedures, practices, and standard evaluation methods that will ensure product quality and integrity. You will:
- Utilize laboratory instruments and equipment to help analyze, control, and minimize product variation.
- Use various computer programs to complete tasks.
- Identify root cause of product/process non-conformance to specifications.
- Assist or lead containment and corrective action activities on a day to day basis.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot particularly complex or troublesome production problems, e.g., manufacturing /assembly process variation.
- May lead or take part in formal problem-solving teams including completion of Corrective Action requests.
- Look up engineering drawings on computer, read and understand tolerances, key product features and how to measure.
- Perform basic dimensional inspections of parts utilizing calipers, micrometers, and various other hand-held gauges.
- Create, understand, and define statistical reports, e.g., pareto, histograms, control charts, etc.
- May suggest and request design changes or recommend improvements in production methods through FMEA team or other methods as appropriate.
- Work with technicians, inspectors, assemblers, and repairers and assist with training as required.
- Conduct mathematical calculations of moderate complexity.
- Support manufacturing's Nonconforming Material Process as Required.
- Organize and assist in quality spills, part sorts, and containment activities.
- Assist with standardized work training and process audits.
- Perform internal audits as directed.
Knowledge, Skill and Ability Requirements:
- Commitment to health and safety (both in the office, laboratory, and in the plant).
- Able to perform basic mathematical calculations and basic statistics.
- Proficient knowledge of PC software including Word, Excel, and Power Point.
- Working knowledge of engineering drawings and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
- Knowledge of pertinent manufacturing techniques.
- Verbal, written, and computer graphic communication skills necessary to effectively present data and information to internal and external customers, including management and engineering.
- Ability to lead, work with, and instruct others in related job functions.
- Thorough knowledge of inspection techniques, metrology methods, tolerances, engineering drawings process, routings, S.P.C. techniques, personal computers, and general shop practices.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and follow-up skills.
- Ability to reason through problems and suggest workable solutions.
- Ability to guide supervision in making proper decisions relative to product and process control issues.
- Ability to perform duties independently consulting supervisor for only occasional exceptions.
- Must be able to pay close attention to detail.
- Ability to be flexible and able to manage diverse priorities and assignments.
- Willingness to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays, per schedule and as needed.
- Knowledge of quality tools including Process Mapping, PFMEA, Validation Studies, MSA, and Control Plans
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Five or more years’ experience preferred in complex assembly operations.
- Associates degree or post high school equivalent education in a specialized technical/scientific field is required or eight or more years’ experience in complex assembly operations
- Seek and maintain certification: ASQ – Certified Quality Technician.
- Willingness to pursue LSS GB certification as a requirement.
