We have an exciting opportunity for an experience Public Affairs Manager to join our Group Corporate Affairs team. The Manager, Public Affairs is a key member of the Responsible Business and Public Affairs Team, responsible for monitoring the effect that public policy changes may have on the business, providing internal forecasts and acting as an SME to advise senior leadership accordingly. They work closely with the Head of Political Engagement to deliver the Strategic Stakeholder strategy; and work collaboratively across the wider RB&PA team and Corporate Affairs and Marketing function (both at group and divisional level) to drive value from all our Public Affairs activities.

Job Description:

What you’ll be doing:

  • Work with Capita’s corporate communications agency, maintain stakeholder maps and prioritisation for political and wider stakeholders (e.g. think tanks, partners, non-political stakeholders)
  • Coordinate all activity via Capita’s integrated campaign grid; ensure all activity is in line with the corporate affairs strategy and campaign pillars
  • Work with colleagues from across Capita’s divisions to anticipate issues and prepare to answer questions about them from political and wider stakeholders
  • Horizon scan to identify political and public debate topics relevant to Capita’s business; along with trends and hot topics in line with Capita’s corporate affairs strategy and key messages
  • Provide high quality briefing to Capita’s Chief Executive and Corporate Affairs Director in advance of meetings with politicians and other influencers
  • Establish and maintain a network of internal contacts across the organisation to ensure familiarity with the business and excellent sources of corporate intelligence
  • Works collaboratively across Corporate Affairs and Marketing to drive value from activities across the function, including alignment with thought leadership, internal and external communications activities

What we’re looking for:

  • Track record of success in delivering a public affairs programme in a high-profile environment
  • A team player, with strong collaborative skills and an innovative mind that uses their initiative
  • Excellent knowledge of the workings of Parliament and local government, and the needs and priorities of national and local politicians
  • Excellent knowledge of thinktanks and business lobbying groups, NGOs, policy makes and academics
  • Able to speak the language of the business and gain the confidence of colleagues from across the Group
  • Strong commercial grounding, and understanding both of public affairs (essential) and responsible business (preferred)
  • Strategic thinker and an experienced doer
