Job purpose

BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as a Prototype Technician.  The Prototype Technician will support manufacturing engineering with the following electronic assembly processes which includes printed circuit board assembly (PCBA), through-hole component insertion, soldering, final assembly, inspection, testing and quality control for building various automotive electronic products.

Key responsibilities

• Support manufacturing engineers during prototype build activities                                                                                                   
• Quality Control - Collect, analyse, and record processing data.
• Work from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, prints or defined plans to perform rework, check out and trouble-shooting functions.
• Support engineering activities such as PCB assembly and test, checkout, modification, fabrication, and assembly of prototype assemblies, specialized test equipment.                                                                                         Support surface mount processes and equipment (ASM SX series placement equipment and DEK solder paste printing) Including machine setup and tear down.        
• Repair and modify bare and assembled circuit boards using hand soldering techniques.                                           Effective time management, communication, and multitasking skills.
• Hands on prototype building.
• Flexible working hours required to meet demanding engineering prototype delivery schedules.
• Operate specified assembly and test equipment
• Assist in preparing parts kits for proto builds
• Document and communicate assembly and test results
• Work in team environment

What we’re looking for

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Knowledge and experience with equipment operation - assembly/build including surface mount operations from set-up to tear down, In-circuit test, PCBA through hole, final assembly, adhesive dispense, selective solder, wave solder, test, packaging, and shipping.
• Equipment operation and build execution
• Desired 610-IPC standard certification for rework. 
• Strong organizational, communication, and people skills are required to work with program management, engineering development, and process teams.
