Job Description

Summary

***INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY PLEASE***

*Internal Applicants only

Our colleagues work for the National Trust in many locations and sometimes don't have easy access to internal vacancy listings. Using the internet ensures we can reach as many of our colleagues as possible. We appreciate that this can be frustrating for external talent. Do note that some roles are released externally after an initial period of time.

This is an exciting time for a member of staff with several years of countryside management experience to develop their career on a 2 year secondment within the team at the Isle of Purbeck as we look to enhance our portfolio with a significant countryside acquisition with potential for further developing visitor experience, engagement, audience and connections to our portfolio.

What it's like to work here

The Purbeck Estate is a truly inspiring and wonderful place to work. From the iconic romantic ruins of Corfe Castle standing proud on the skyline to the sandy beaches of Studland Bay, we welcome visitors all year round.

The wider countryside estate includes some of Britain’s most beautiful and nature rich landscapes from the orchid-rich grasslands and limestone cliffs of the Jurassic Coast to the nearly 5,000 plant and animal species that live on the Purbeck Heaths and in the UK’s first Super National Nature Reserve.

We’re a busy, driven team, who like a challenge and work at a fast pace. We collaborate with each other, the wider property and external partners to engage, share our stories and provide a personal, tailored and exceptional service. This is a great place to work and an exciting time to join the friendly team of staff and volunteers, who are looking for an engaging, driven, people-focused individual who will bring energy and ideas to this vibrant property.

What you'll be doing

Based at our property office in the Isle of Purbeck, you’ll take an active role in supporting delivery of, and involvement with :

-       A scheme of works for building safety and repair

-       Waste management and water and power supply to existing campsite

-       A scheme of works for quarry safety

-       A suitable plan of works for cave safety under professional guidance

-       A 5 year land management plan

-       A visitor safety in the countryside plan

-       Our outdoor holidays team to get a family campsite up and running during 2022

You may also have some degree of involvement with :

-       A marketing and communications plan

-       A community engagement plan

Please note that it is expected that this role will commence mid March 2022, and the successful candidate will need to be available to start then.

Please also read the full role profile, attached to this advert.

Who we're looking for

To deliver this role successfully, you will need to have :

  • A proven track record with several years’ experience of working in a countryside management role
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Problem solving skills, and ability to work on own initiative
  • Experience of contractor management
  • Ability to work collaboratively

For further information and / or a confidential discussion, please contact either Tracey Churcher (General Manager) or Nick Hughes (Property Operations Manager).

The package

The National Trust has the motto ‘For everyone, for ever’ at its heart. We’re working hard to create an inclusive culture, where everyone feels they belong. It’s important that our people reflect and represent the diversity of the communities and audiences we serve. We welcome and value difference, so when we say we’re for everyone, we want everyone to be welcome in our teams too.

Wherever you’re from, and whatever your background, we want to hear from you – and it doesn’t matter if you’re jam first, cream first, or even if you don’t like scones at all. Everyone is welcome.

Benefits for working at the National Trust include:

  • Flexible working whenever possible
  • Free parking at most locations
  • Free entry to our properties for you, a guest and your children (under 18)
  • Substantial pension scheme of up to 10% basic salary
