Bechtel is currently executing and has plans to further develop large hydropower projects, including Pumped Hydro storage facilities, as the market for renewable power and energy storage continues to expand. The successful candidate will have significant opportunity for career growth as a critical member of the business sector team, reporting to the Heavy Civil Sector Manager.
In support of our plans to further engage in this market, the Project Engineering Manager will participate in all stages of the project lifecycle, including proposal development, detailed design and project execution. The Project Engineering Manager will contribute to technical feasibility studies, value engineering, cost development and strategic planning for the Hydropower market.
The successful candidate will initially work remotely, with routine business travel in support of project development and execution. It is anticipated that long term relocation may be required, most likely to support UK or Australia markets.
Responsibilities
Reports to the Sector Manager and/or the Functional Manager of Engineering
Provides technical insight and value engineering during development of engineering designs
Coordinates technical scope with Construction and Procurement organizations
Manages multi-discipline team executing proposal and project execution
Provides leadership and inspires performance of the project team
Qualifications
BS/MS Degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis on water resources development, hydraulics/hydrology or engineering geology, or Mechanical Engineering with emphasis on hydraulic equipment and power generation.
Professional Engineering License/Chartership or equivalent
Minimum 15 years of engineering experience, participating in planning, developing and executing hydropower and pump storage projects including pre-feasibility, feasibility, FEED, preliminary and detailed design, construction to commissioning and startup, and/or experience as owner's engineering work (technical specifications, cost estimation, tenders’ evaluations, design review, construction supervision).
Knowledge of all aspects and elements of hydro-power generation and pump storage project development including at a minimum site characterization and selection, physical layout and siting of plant facilities, selection of hydro-machinery, tunnelling methodology, dam type and gates and valves, assessment of water resources, reservoir sizing, dam height and power production optimization, geotechnical and geological site investigation, power transmission system, optioneering, risk assessment, construct methods, environmental impacts and mitigation, and sustainable and resilience design.
Experience in managing multi-disciplinary teams consisting of geotechnical, geological, hydrology and hydraulics, civil, structural, seismic, mechanical, electrical, environmental, risk and construction engineers in support of project execution.
Preferred Qualifications
Membership in national and/or international professional dam/hydro associations or commissions.
Record of serving in hydro/dam review boards
