Job Description
This truly is a career-defining role, the programme director is responsible for leading and managing the setting-up of the programme through to delivery of the new capabilities, realisation of benefits and programme closure.
You will have primary responsibility for successful delivery of the new capabilities and establishing governance, but also takes delegated responsibility from the SRO for the direction of the programme. ​
What you’ll be doing:
- Securing the investment required to set up and run the programme, and fund the deployment activities so that the desired benefits are realised
- Day-to-day management of the programme, including taking the programme forward from appointment and supervising, controlling and closing the programme
- Providing clear leadership and direction throughout the life of the programme and acting as the day-to-day agent on behalf of the SRO, ensuring successful delivery of the new capability
- Planning and designing the programme and proactively monitoring its overall progress, resolving issues and initiating corrective action as appropriate
- Establishing the programme’s governance arrangements and ensuring appropriate assurance is in place. Implementing agreed recommendations to improve delivery confidence.
- Ensuring the viability of the business case and maintaining alignment of the programme with Capita’s strategy and purpose
- Monitoring the key strategic risks facing the programme and managing and resolving any risks and other issues that may arise
- Maintaining overall integrity and coherence of the programme, and developing and maintaining the programme environment to support each individual project within it
- Managing the programme’s budget, monitoring the expenditures and costs against benefits as the programme progresses
- Ensuring that the delivery of outputs or services from the projects meets programme requirements in line with the programme blueprint and projects dossier, and is to the appropriate quality, on time and within budget
- Ensuring the effectiveness and performance of the programme organisation and programme team, aligned with Capita’s programme delivery methodology and standards.
- Maintaining the interface with key senior stakeholders, keeping them engaged and informed
- Ensuring the effectiveness and performance of the programme organisation and reporting progress of the programme at regular intervals to the SRO and Programme and Investment Committee
What we’re looking for:
- You will have the leadership skills and gravitas to operate comfortably with senior colleagues, up to and including Executive Officer level, as well as the ability to inspire and motivate delivery professionals across Capita
- You will be familiar operating in complex and large-scale organisational environments, and will bring career experience in one or more of large operational, managed services, outsourcing or consulting businesses
- You will be a highly effective influencer of senior colleagues, with the emotional intelligence to match the intellectual skills required to ensure consistent application of functional standards, whilst remaining empathetic to the challenges Divisions face in delivering programme and projects effectively
- Excellent levels of time management and personal organisation; able to multi-task
- Experience in leading technical projects or workstreams
- Outcome focussed and able to make tactical decisions, within their area of discretion, to ensure that the overall project aims (and therefore the aims of the programme) are met in full
- Able to prioritise and re-prioritise, based on changing conditions on the ground, and balance this with commercial imperatives
- Conversant with up to date solution architecture methodologies
- Appreciation of Scrum and Agile principles
- Accreditation in industry-recognised qualifications and standards (including but not limited to PRINCE2, MSP, MoP, TOGAF, ITIL, COBiT, SAFe) is desirable but not essential
