Job Summary

Leads team members to identify, manage, and execute the plant’s process improvement opportunities. Manages production staff to attain production and quality goals. Identifies problems or bottlenecks in production processes and resolves issues. Ensures production resources including materials, equipment and human resources are available as needed to maintain production schedules. Supports continuous improvement goals in safety, quality, cost and customer service. Responsible for managing and owning various functions of the business and creating an engaged and team oriented work force in order to improve business results.

Position Responsibilities

  • Supervise all production activities in accordance with corporate and plant policies, programs, and standards concerning safety, quality, productivity, cost, and zero loss mindset
  • Provide continual leadership and guidance to team members for the purpose of increasing their effectiveness and establishing good working relationships
  • Actively promote plant safety and environmental programs and procedures that are in compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements
  • Fully implement and maintain SQF requirements, including training verification, within area of responsibility
  • Actively promote adherence to plant quality system, sanitation, GMP and HACCP standards to achieve a finished product within quality control specifications
  • Manage staffing at current budgeted levels
  • Assign responsibilities to team members, as required to meet planned production schedules 
  • Coordinate the proper training of team members within the assigned department
  • Apply consistent disciplinary actions in accordance with plant policies and procedures
  • Review shift activities and results, making adjustments as required for continuous improvement
  • Investigate production delays and takes corrective action as necessary
  • Keep management informed of the status of production and promptly notify appropriate member(s) of management of issues impacting food safety, food quality, or production
  • Coordinate the storage and rework of quality control hold products with appropriate plant personnel
  • Promote an environment conducive to teams, teamwork, and line-driven accountability
  • Complete special projects, duties and assignments, as appropriate 
  • Owns the Daily Direction Setting process for their area
  • Builds Processes and Systems (Daily Management Systems)
  • Coaches others on referring to what process or system needs implemented to prevent failures
  • Coaches teammates on using tools within systems to be more self-directed
  • Leads groups in problem solving using the UPS process
  • Leads or participate on AMD teams

​SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Three (3) or more years of leading employees in a manufacturing environment, preferred
  • Preference for previous TPM experience (5S, Lean, Kaizen, etc)
  • Experience in a food production/packaging environment, preferred
  • Experience working with Continuous Improvement methodologies, preferred
  • Able to use MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Knowledge of SAP preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Undergraduate degree in any related field (Engineering; Industrial; Business.), preferred.
  • Bachelor of Science in Business Administration or in a similar field will be given greater weight in selection.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This position provides direct supervision to production personnel. In the absence of other functional supervisors (i.e. Maintenance, Warehouse, etc.), the Supervisor may be required to provide assistance and direction to ensure work continues and is completed as needed for the business. The Supervisor will be responsible for communicating to their immediate manager of situations that arise. The duties and responsibilities are not all inclusive and other duties may be assigned based on business needs.

TRAVEL:

  • 5%-10% travel

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.  The employee frequently is required to stand and walk.  The employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, and feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; taste and smell.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee will be exposed to a noisy environment that varies from hot to cold in temperature. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
