Who are we?
The Bloomberg Index Services Limited (BISL) Production Support Engineering team is an integral part of a rapidly growing index business within Bloomberg. We are responsible for the smooth operation of a diverse range of systems serving world leading benchmark and tradable index products. These indices underpin many trillion of dollars of trades and assets under management, and hundreds of clients rely on them daily to inform critical business decisions. The reliability, stability, and scalability of this platform is key to our success - and that’s where our Teams come in! Our team is globally distributed across the US, London, and Asia, and we work together to ensure a consistent and seamless platform for all clients.
You will have the opportunity to make a positive mark early and continuously as you work closely with other engineers.
We’ll trust you to:
- Quickly learn and understand our diverse production systems, technology stack and operational activities.
- Proactively monitor our production systems and respond to alerts.
- Drive and own priority incidents and leverage cross-functional teams to quickly eliminate impacts, escalate issues/risks effectively when necessary with clear and concise communications.
- Coordinate and execute operational activities such as software deployments and disaster recovery plans.
- Provide regular and effective feedback on the health trends of our production systems to senior management to ensure continued system reliability.
- Use all your technical skills and experience to ensure the reliability of a diverse set of systems with a diverse technology stack.
- Contribute to the work of the whole team, collaborating with the engineering and product operations teams to find the very best solution to their problem.
- Desire to learn technical skills and take ownership of personal development.
You’ll need to have:
- Minimum 3+ years of experience working with Windows Server OR Linux operating systems and an enthusiasm to learn and work with both platforms.
- Minimum 3+ years work experience with the Unix command line or Windows command line.
- High logical/critical thinking.
- Demonstrated history of solving technical problems with a keen eye for detail and strong analytical mindset.
- Demonstrated history of learning new technologies on the job and absorbing new information quickly.
- Demonstrated history of working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated continuous career growth within an organization.
- Strong written and verbal communications and interpersonal skills.
- Self-motivated, able to work independently & in a team environment under deadlines.
We'd love to see:
- A desire to learn new technologies and apply them where appropriate to improve the quality of our software and processes.
- Exposure to all phases of the software development lifecycle.
- Some programming and/or automation experience in Python, Perl, and/or Korn shell.
- Experience of querying data from SQL databases.
- Multiple open source automation and management tool-set knowledge (includes: Chef, Ruby, GitHub, Salt, Ansible, Jira, etc., to name a few).
- Demonstrated experience with proactively identifying gaps within existing processes and taking the initiative to improve them by defining and piloting new procedures.
