Job Description

We are turbo charging our digital strategy and redefining how M&S values data. On the back of that, we're looking for a Technical Product Manager to run a multidisciplinary team of data engineers, data quality analysts, business analysts, technical delivery leads and architects.

You'll lead one of our core data domains delivering our data strategy, working collaboratively with business partners to define and action a roadmap of strategic data sets which will enable business functions to self-serve data and drive decision making with data.

This role will balance the delivery of the strategic data sets, with supporting our data science teams with delivering general business demand, planning in the decommissioning of legacy data platforms, and supporting business demand management and prioritisation.

Key accountabilities & responsibilities

  • Own and run a portfolio of data domains and diverse business partners.
  • Promote strategy and find opportunities, delivering measurable direct and indirect value.
  • Identify and be responsible for the setting the direction of travel of existing legacy data and reports.
  • Lead a cross functional team setting ways of working in a mixed supplier and permanent team.
  • Understanding the resource requirements skills required in the team to optimally deliver to the data strategy.
  • Build management and progress updates to key groups across M&S.
  • Understand different data requirements.
  • Build a backlog and prioritisation mechanism balancing general demand, project work, decommissioning and strategic build.
  • Lead the data models for the business domain supported by the data architect.
  • Work with the analytics teams to build tools and best ways of democratising data to the business.
  • Build in Data quality, SLAs, data ownership and cataloguing into the data.
  • Ensure the data architecture and engineering principles and design are incorporated into delivery.
  • Support the business with building out the data sets and integration pipelines as part of wider projects and initiatives.
  • Ensure build of data sets follow GDPR and CISO policies.
  • Implement data governance policies in particular ownership, quality and compliance.
  • Promote the BEAM brand both internally and externally.
  • Build relationships with key external partners.
  • Develop and lead talent, mentor and develop your team to ensure their growth.
  • Lead, mentor and collaborate with a diverse team to establish and evolve our data capabilities and help to embed standard practices.
  • Set standards and share knowledge, ensuring the team remain engaged and skilled in the latest technology.

Key Experience

  • Demonstrable passion and curiosity about data - confident and evangelical about the benefits of using data to drive an organisation.
  • An experienced data product manager with a strong record of strategic and innovative thinking resulting in data product delivery delivering beneficial business change.
  • Demonstrable experience of engaging, influencing and communicating to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Has a passion for driving improved business performance through a data led approach and culture.
  • Experienced in collaborating with technical teams, showing strong experience in defining, designing, developing and delivering complex solutions.
  • Experience of delivering data & analytical solutions in a large-scale cloud environment.
  • Knowledge of data modelling and engineering practices.
