Process Engineer– Fort Collins, CO

This is a full-time, exempt level position

Job Summary:

Responsible for evaluating existing processes and configuring manufacturing systems to reduce cost, improve sustainability and develop best practices within the production process.
Support Operations in the development, innovation and improvement of flavor products/processes/systems from inception through all stages of development and provide general production engineering support. Support Performance Excellence activities.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Fully understand the operation and flow of all processes and equipment in production
  2. Design flow diagrams, perform material and energy balances
  3. Manage projects as needed, including specifying equipment and cost analyses
  4. Develop & conduct trials in the lab, pilot plant, production in conjunction with Technology CoE and/or Commercialization group, including scale-up and process validation
  5. Track data and maintain accurate and detailed records of all experimental work
  6. Provide engineering support to various interdisciplinary teams
  7. Review process descriptions in new & revised formulae for accuracy and scale-up issues before they are produced and coordinate formula design improvements
  8. Review deviations, rejections and non-conformities as well as review operator comment logs to identify corrective/preventative actions & provide daily support for production issues
  9. Work with Leads to provide training support
  10. Effectively communicate project proposals, status, and results through written technical documentation and oral presentations
  11. Conduct all activities under company guidelines (i.e. FSSC 22000, USDA, Kosher, GMP, etc.)
  12. Assist in daily operations including shift coverage as needed
  13. Assist with calculating, tracking, and site capacity
  14. Assist with calculating, tracking, and reporting site OEE
  15. Design and implement NDE and Cost Improvement initiatives via FEL process as needed.
  16. Diagnose origin of breakdowns, including human error, and troubleshoot problems.
  17. Travel up to 10% of time to support off-site production and commercialization activities

Work experience/educational requirements:

  1. BS in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering degree
  2. 3+ years’ experience in the Flavor, Food/Beverage, Pharmaceutical or Chemical Industry with production engineering experience preferred.
  3. Technical expertise or experience with some of the following unit operations: liquid and powder blending, emulsions, spray/vacuum drying, agglomeration, distillation, separations/filtration, fermentation, packaging
  4. Project Management skills strongly desired
  5. Strong verbal and written communication skills
  6. Demonstrated interpersonal/teamwork skills and a good sense of business/technical interrelationships
  7. Computer literacy in Microsoft Office products, AutoCAD beneficial
