Principal Electrical Design Engineer

Location: Manchester

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a principal electrical design engineer to join our team in Manchester.

Reporting to the electrical associate director you will be an experienced electrical design engineer with a thorough understanding of technical, commercial, and construction experience within the electrical services industry.

You must be dynamic and enthusiastic with good interpersonal and business development skills, with a broad experience in professional and project work ideally within one or more of the following sectors:

Property

Industrial

Power

Transport

Commercial.

Requiring the undertaking and preparation of designs/briefs, specifications, feasibility studies, site inspection, commissioning and maintenance testing/certification, associated with a varied range of M&E Building Services and Infrastructure electrical services and project management covering:

MV/ LV main distribution,

Lighting (general and emergency),

Small power,

Lightning protection,

Life critical alarm, security and access systems,

Control and building management systems.

Job Description:

What you will be doing

  • Preparing schemes for tender using standard Forms of Contract such as the NEC3 family.
  • Undertaking feasibility studies including preparing reports, cost estimates, investigating problems, and identifying of options.
  • Supervising and monitoring works on site, chairing and managing progress meetings, identification and assessment of additional payments due to variation orders or compensation events, determination of project final accounts and completing the defects period.
  • The ability to set and work to personal deadlines and targets to meet the requirements of programmes of work, to meet clients’ needs and to respond to targets set by others.
  • Able to assist in preparing fee estimates and bid work.
  • To demonstrate excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing, both at a general and technical level.
  • Ensuring compliance of the team’s work with a high regard to Health and Safety and the application of the CDM Regulations and other legislation.
  • Supervision of and responsibility for members of the team, including programming and allocating work and assisting in the training and development of staff, setting goals and monitoring their performance.
  • Abide by the objectives and targets of both the section and the department and follow procedures and practices utilised in all aspects of the work, including computerised and manual systems and the maintenance of relevant records

What we’re looking for:

  • A minimum of 10 years post qualification experience in the design, implementation and supervision in relevant aspects of electrical design and construction.
  • An extensive knowledge and understanding of the relevant electrical legislation, standards and procedures.
  • Capable of discussing engineering issues and identifying solutions
  • An understanding of the commercial issues in undertaking a construction project.
  • An experienced Electrical Design Engineer familiar with the preparation of professional engineering designs and reports.
