Principal Solutions Architect - Payments Technology

Getting to know you 

You are an experienced architect who has built systems using a combination of bespoke software and commercial off-the-shelf products.  

During your career you will have worked with software development teams, and you can translate business objectives into deliverables that can be sequenced and built. 

You will have worked with Microsoft Azure or other clouds and are able to design cloud-based architecture and understand its impact on latency and consistency.  

With more than 5 years’ experience in the payments industry, you will understand the terminology and the processes. You follow the changes to the industry and can spot new opportunities as they occur. 

You are comfortable operating at pace in a fast-changing environment. You can manage your diary and prioritise work accordingly. 

As an effective communicator, you will be comfortable talking to our CxO and our engineering teams equally, using the appropriate level of detail that is required.  

Ideally whilst you have operated at a senior level you remain technical and are able to write some code, even if it’s not for Production. 

You can influence others and are pragmatic when balancing strategic with tactical objectives. 

As a leader, you are comfortable line managing a team of architects and helping them develop their skills and career. 

You’ll get to 

Work with the Payments leadership to develop the business strategy and translate this into a sequence of deliverables. 

Retain your technical skills, by evaluating new technology and writing Proof of Concepts. 

Collaborate with the wider tech team to build software that powers the ASOS website running at scale. 

Design and integrate new software to provide new initiatives to ASOS (such as e-Wallet, Open Banking, payment routing etc.) 

Upgrade our technology, our processes, and ways of working so that we are continuously improving, paying down our tech debt, and remaining efficient. 

Apply technical governance to the systems that we build. 

Work with the security and risk function to build secure architecture that meets regulatory & compliance requirements. 

Line manage a team of Solution Architects, mentor and develop their payments knowledge and architecture skills.
