The Commercial Software Engineering (CSE) team is a global engineering organization that works directly with customers looking to leverage the latest technologies to address their toughest challenges. We work closely with our customers’ engineers to jointly develop code to solve their biggest challenges and accelerate their organizations. We work in collaboration with Microsoft product teams, partners, and open source communities to empower our customers to do more with the cloud.  We pride ourselves on making contributions to open source and making our Microsoft platforms easier to use.  

We are hiring a Principal Software Engineer Lead with deep experience and expertise in designing and delivering solutions using modern software engineering practices and cloud technologies. With your team, you will be working side-by-side with high-impact and strategic customers and their engineers to build innovative solutions. Responsibilities

• Directly leading and managing a team of 5-6 software engineers 
• Giving thoughtful feedback, nurturing an inclusive engineering environment, championing engineering fundamentals, and providing clarity and mentorship for team members  
• Partnering with technical program management and other teams across CSE to successfully deliver engagements that build trust and expand Azure expertise with our customers  
• Working hands-on with your team and our customers from design through implementation of large-scale distributed systems, setting examples for good engineering practices and coding along the way.  
• Exhibiting technical leadership across the broader CSE organization, with the Microsoft product teams, and the open-source community.  
• Modeling our core values and being a mentor, coach, and advisor to other engineers on our team. 
• Continuously building your technical knowledge and improving our ability to deliver quality solutions by evolving our engineering process and technical capabilities.  

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:  

• 10+ years of experience hands-on developing, shipping or running production systems and/or software, including complex production systems that run on a public cloud. 
• 2+ years of experience directly managing engineers 

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Solid design and coding skills with a bias for architecture at scale 
• Demonstrated ability to work with customers and collaborate across company boundaries 
• Knowledge of Microsoft Azure, AWS, or similar cloud computing platforms 
• Strong service delivery experience including architecture, coding, and building online services 
• Experience leading geographically dispersed, diverse, and virtual teams 
• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline or the equivalent 
• Industry experience in Financial Services or Media and Communications industries 
• Enjoy potential future travel and are comfortable with travel up to 25%
