Responsibilities

• Perform tasks related to significantly improving the runtime performance of the Python programming language as implemented in the open source CPython interpreter (https://github.com/python/cpython/), such as: 

• proposing and implementing changes to the source code of the Python interpreter itself to improve its performance 
• creating tools and scripts to analyze and/or manipulate that source code 
• developing additional tools to measure and assess the performance of the interpreter in certain contexts, such as specific benchmarks, test suites, or real-world applications. 

• Communicate results, plans, and concerns to Python's core development community and interact with that community to ensure that the changes are acceptable to that community. 

Qualifications

Required Basic Qualifications: 

• Significant industry experience developing commercial system software in languages like C or C++ 
• Demonstratable experience working on language runtimes, compilers or debuggers 
• High level of working experience with the Python programing language  

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Extensive, demonstrable experience in system level programming domains where performance is a key concern 
• Experience contributing to large-scale open-source projects. CPython would be a big plus. 
• Data driven, customer focused, self-motivated, and organized 
• Ability to communicate technical details clearly across organizational boundaries. 
• Experience with cloud services and machine learning a plus
