Principal Scientist: Leads Discovery & Optimization - Biomarker and Immunoassay Profiling

The Leads Discovery & Optimization (LDO) Group leverages technology, innovation, and broad scientific knowledge to deliver comprehensive in vitro data packages to support all phases of drug discovery at BMS. We are seeking a highly motivated individual with expertise building advanced cellular assays using the latest technologies to support biomarker profiling and lead optimization within the LDO group. This individual will develop and execute assays to support BMS early discovery efforts and translational research and development projects. The candidate must have in-depth knowledge of immunoassay read-outs. Further, significant hands-on experience and a successful track record in establishing Luminex, MSD and flow cytometry assays in multiple cellular matrices as well as strong bioanalytical and data analytics skills will be essential for this position. The candidate will be required to bring strategic insight into program support ensuring robust and innovative solutions and approaches towards the development of high-throughput immunological assays.  The candidate is expected to explore, validate and implement new immunoassay technologies that benefit biomarker profiling. We are looking for a candidate who is self-motivating, highly organized with strong attention to detail, and a proven team player with ability to meet goals working in a group of peers.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Develop and routinely execute Luminex-based biomarker profiling panels to support across therapeutic areas
  • Collaborate closely with therapeutic area scientists to devise optimal strategies for the development and execution of immunoassays for biomarker profiling and SAR/lead optimization support within LDO
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously for routine screening to meet all data delivery timelines
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies and methods to improve upon the quality and efficiency of immunoassays for biomarker profiling
  • Review relevant literature and leverage knowledge to solve problems in a timely fashion.
  • Analyze, interpret and effectively present data to project teams
  • Apply machine-learning and AI tools to biomarker data analytics and work closely with bioinformatics team for pathway analyses
  • Ability to create and maintain an effective scientific network through teamwork, excellent problem-solving skills and open collaborative style are of critical importance to the success of this role.

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in cell biology, biochemistry, pharmacology or immunology fields with 10+ years of industry experience
  • Expertise in Luminex, MSD and flow cytometry immunoassay design are essential. Previous and deep experience in high-throughput cell-based immunoassay screening and Luminex biomarker profiling with cross species samples is required.
  • Knowledge in immunology, cell biology and pharmacology are required to bring deep strategic input to program support. Proven track record of research excellence and strong publication record are required.
  • Skilled use of IT for bioanalytics, data handling and data reporting, expertise in Spotfire, and basic knowledge in coding is essential.
  • Proficiency in various approaches of lab automation including liquid handling systems, workstations and fully automated systems is as an advantage
  • High attention to detail, strong written and verbal communication skills, strong multitasking skills and ability to effectively collaborate across groups at all stages of projects.
