Principal Scientist in Discovery Biology - Cellular Immunology

Job summary/description

Bristol-Myers Squibb is looking for a highly motivated and experienced immunologist to join the Discovery Biology Immunology team located in Lawrenceville, NJ. This individual will lead discovery efforts aimed at modulating immune response and tolerance induction in autoimmune diseases, including biology leadership for early target identification, validation, and lead optimization. The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with multiple cross-functional teams, utilizing human data sets to identify new drug targets and pathways of interests.   The candidate may lead a small team, including both direct and indirect supervision of scientists, and is expected to plan, direct, and execute laboratory research identification for early discovery research projects.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Act as a subject matter expert, with knowledge of principles and concepts in immune tolerance mechanisms, actively participate in internal and external scientific meetings through presentations and critical evaluation of both internal results and emerging scientific literature.
  • Effectively collaborate in highly matrixed organization to drive new target identification and validation and the advancement of therapeutic candidates.
  • Biology lead for discovery program for autoimmune diseases indication., driving biology strategy and implementation
  • Mentor and manage 1-2 direct reports to develop and execute laboratory research or studies protocol-related activities

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Ph.D. in Immunology or equivalent advanced biology degree, with 5+ years of additional relevant experience
  • Considerable laboratory expertise that spans molecular and cellular research as exemplified by research publications and/or patents.
  • Thorough knowledge of experimental design, and a high level of technical laboratory skills (including cell culture, immunoassays, protein signaling, qPCR technology platforms, high parameter flow cytometry and imaging) together with an ability to interpret results, present findings in scientific meetings
  • Deep knowledge of human immunology and autoimmune diseases
  • Experience with mining large datasets in collaboration with bioinformaticians to understand disease pathophysiology
  • Demonstrated expertise in executing target identification strategies including the design, implementation, and validation of targets, by use of genome engineering techniques and genetic perturbation (eg shRNA, CRISPR) is required.
  • Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills, and experience in participating in and/or leading multi-disciplinary project teams.
