About the role – Principle Project Manager:

In this leadership role within IPD you will be leading a small team of experienced project managers responsible for delivering a programme of projects by applying processes, methods, knowledge, skills, and experience to achieve the project objectives. You will be allocating and assigning project management resource to enable successful delivery of all the projects within your regions for the Trust.

You will be collaborating at programme level with the Trust construction partners and stakeholders, to ensure all projects are delivered to the highest standard regarding quality, time, cost, safety and the environment.

 You will also be required to manage some projects yourself, working with a diverse range of stakeholders and partners to ensure their successful completion. 

 As a large and complex organisation our projects will vary in size, scope, budget and impact.  You will therefore need to have an understanding of how to select and adopt different processes and methods to ensure that the team delivers the project objectives on time and on budget.

Key accountabilities:

Create and maintain a culture of incident and injury free by demonstrating clear leadership to ensure all projects are planned and delivered safely and in line with Trust requirements. Work safely ensuring the safety of others and contribute to safe working in all activities.

Manage projects in accordance with the Trust’s Health and Safety policy and defined standards to ensure compliance.

Lead and develop a team of project managers to ensure that the appropriate skills and competencies are maintained to deliver the objectives of the team.

Capture and review all project requirements in of the Trust, assess customer and stakeholder impact and prepare a delivery programme.

Prepare annual business plan budgets and schedules for all significant projects within a programme.

Maintain effective schedule, financial and output performance monitoring and reporting for a programme of projects to ensure planned objectives are met.

Develop, implement and monitor a schedule of project/programme activities and key milestones for detailed and complex projects/programmes to ensure planned objectives are met.

Ensure the effective and appropriate issue and risk management associated with the delivery of complex and wide-ranging projects & programmes including safety, environmental, commercial/financial, reputational and regulatory requirements.

Establish, maintain and implement programme change management processes and ensure effective and efficient management of programme changes.

Maintain effective communications with key programme stakeholders to satisfy their differing needs.

Provide contract administration advice and support to project managers on all aspects of the contract, if applicable to delivery of the project, to ensure compliance.

Ensure the team complete and handover projects in a controlled manner highlighting any areas for improvements or elements of good practice to be considered in future projects.

Displaying the Trust values and behaviours at all times.

Ensuring that diversity and inclusion are integrated into all aspects of Trust life and promoting inclusion by challenging behaviour, practices, actions, or decisions that are counter to the objectives of the Trust’s policies and value.

 About you

 Qualifications:

Degree (or equivalent) in a related discipline e.g., Civil Engineering, Project Management.

Membership of an appropriate professional body i.e., Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), Association for Project Management (APM), Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

Project/Programme Management accreditation/qualification i.e., APM Project Management Qualification, Managing Successful Programmes (MSP), Prince2.

Valid UK driving licence - Car Cash allowance is provided for regional/national travel, including travel to remote locations.

Experience:

Considerable Project Management experience. Proven track record of successfully managing multiple medium/high complexity projects within the relevant discipline/sector (e.g., construction, asset management).

Proficient in preparing and maintaining detailed schedules for activities and events for complex projects, taking account of dependencies and resource requirements.

Considerable experience of successfully managing complex large-scale projects and/or programmes in excess of £6million.

Comprehensive experience of administration of the NEC forms of contract.

Demonstrable experience and competence in conflict management.

Proven budgetary and commercial awareness with the ability to develop and agree budgets for programmes/projects and monitor and control forecast and actual costs against the budgets.

Knowledge and experience of Managing Safety in Construction, and the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.

Experience of the development, management, monitoring and reporting of complex programmes within the engineering or asset maintenance sector. [Desirable].

Proven experience of SAP particularly in the Logistics, Accounting and Information System modules. [Desirable].

Skills:

Proven leadership skills with the ability to empower, motivate and inspire others, particularly project team members.

Excellent interpersonal skills enabling the building of collaborative relationships with all programme/project stakeholders with an ability to take account of their levels of influence.

Excellent standard of written and verbal communication including experience in making formal presentations in project management subjects.

Comprehensive knowledge of programme and project management processes and systems.

Proficient in the use of a personal computer and business applications software e.g., Excel, Word and other MS office applications, including intermediate use of MS Project
