Position Overview
As a member of the Acute Therapies hardware engineering team, responsible for supporting product verification/compliance test activities on electrical and mechanical medical device components/ systems.
Test expertise will be applied to all levels of product development from prototypes to final design. This will include developing, executing, and validating test methods/creating associated documentation.
Interface with/support different groups, e.g., R&D, Project Management, Quality, and manufacturing
Critical Responsibilities
Develop/execute verification and compliance test methods, protocols, and reports for verification for requirement/standards
Drive quality into product development through analysis, test, and timely feedback of test results to the cross functional team
Design test cases to include test methodology, test setups, materials, equipment, procedure, and acceptance criteria based on requirement and standard
Functional testing of mechanical assemblies and electrical circuits
Document, manage and maintain test records consistent with formal test processes and Quality Management System policies/ procedures.
Key contributor to cross-functional team meetings/design reviews
Create/validate test systems needed for compliance testing/design verification
Review/analyze requirements and compliance standards as part of test development
Support hardware team in product development, concept feasibility, pre compliance and change activities by developing test, collecting, and providing test data
Communicate with third-party test vendors
Plan/prepare for timely test execution by managing test material procurement/test documentation readiness such as protocols
Perform failure mode analysis and root cause investigations; contribute to developing solutions
Review, understand and characterize electrical/mechanical designs to develop test methods and ensure coverage of requirements
Read/understand medical compliance standards to help define requirements, evaluate risk, and develop test procedures the ensure compliance the standard
Perform/lead compliance test execution including being onsite at third party Wireless/EMC and Medical device safety test labs
Education/Experience
Bachelor\'s degree in Engineering (Electrical Engineering strongly preferred/not required)
Previous experience/expert knowledge of IEC 60601 standard is strongly preferred/not required
Experience with EMC and Wireless testing, troubleshooting, equipment, and methods
5+ years’ experience in test engineering, 3+ years in medical/healthcare preferred/not required
Demonstrated results in both Troubleshooting/resourcefulness; leverage own expertise/input from others to identify/resolve critical issues. Understanding/application of root cause analysis methods.
Knowledge of electrical/mechanical engineering disciplines with proven ability to read, understand and analyze electrical schematics/ mechanical drawings
Experience using electrical/mechanical lab equipment. e.g., oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, DMM, power supply, force/pressure gauge and caliper
Takes a hands-on approach to testing, fault diagnosis and isolation.
Experience creating detailed, clear, and complete documentation and records. Experience with a Quality Management System preferred.
Demonstrated experience collaboratively and effectively across disciplines/project teams
Comfortable/effective in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, where small teams share a broad variety of duties
Self-starter that takes ownership of their work, has initiative and drive to accomplish team and department goals and objectives.
