Office Media Group (OMG) has a simple vision – to empower a billion users to achieve more with media.  Within the Experiences and Devices division, OMG builds experiences using modern app and cloud technologies to empower a billion customers to achieve more with media. Take a look at Microsoft Stream, the intelligent video service in Office 365, and the Video Editor app in Windows 10. 

Are you passionate about leading and developing a high performing, inclusive, and mutually supporting engineering team? Building out a world-class cloud service and experience for hundreds of millions of users? Working on cutting edge technology such as video streaming, video capture and editing? 

The Stream team is looking for a seasoned engineering leader to grow the service to a high scale enterprise-grade service and build intelligent and engaging experiences with video. 

Responsibilities

In this role you will: 

• Lead an engineering team of 60+ engineers 
• Work with partner teams such as Flipgrid, SharePoint, Teams, Yammer, Office365 and others to deliver coordinated value and services 

• Establish rigorous engineering processes to ensure service quality, predictable delivery of new capabilities, and continuously improving metrics. 
• Build for increasing scale while measuring and improving quality and managing costs and on-call burden 
• Build HVCs that power video experiences across M365 mobile apps and drive growth and engagement of video  
• Building the Stream mobile app   
• Develop talent and grow your team into a high performing healthy development organization 

• Establish a positive, mutually supporting, inclusive team culture consistent with Microsoft values 

  

This is a key position on a high profile, high growth service. You will be one of the global group engineering managers for the Stream, with direct responsibility for significant aspects of the service and video based experiences. You will be expected to develop engineering strategies with peers in OMG and other groups.  

Qualifications

Required Qualifications 

• 15+ years as a software developer, including 5+ years working on cloud services and cloud-based applications. 
• 8+ years leading engineering teams shipping and deploying products to customers in real world environments 
• Experience managing teams of 40+ engineers 
• Excellent problem-solving skills with a solid understanding of the entire software development lifecycle. 

• Experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment workflows and tools. 
• Experience with the following: C#, C/C++, Mobile App/SDK development 
• Desirable: Azure, React, data engineering, AI, ML, and NL 

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Experience with any of the following engineering areas: performance, security, privacy, reliability, accessibility, localization/globalization. 
• Deep technical understanding - proven ability to develop successful long term code/service architectures 
• Experience being the most senior technical leader on a project, making decisions without higher level validation 
• Excellent understanding of testing methodologies and practices 

• Experience improving processes vertically and horizontally 
• Experience in Azure DevOps 
• Strong customer advocate 
• A systematic problem solver who quickly ramps up, understand complex problems, and create solutions that cross many services
