TITLE: Principal Engineer
DUTIES: Plan, coordinate, and direct large long term analytical and simulation projects on heavy vehicle products to meet specific program objectives; Provide expert level support and technical leadership by utilizing sophisticated tools and computer programs to assist in product design development; Analyze geared drivetrain systems and components including axles, transfer cases, and electric drive products to optimize for durability, efficiency, noise and vibration (NVH), and thermal requirements; Leads the development of innovative simulation methodology based on experimental and analytical analysis and correlation such as laboratory measurement, design of experiment (DOE), and material properties development; Optimization of structural component design and software processes to enable analyses that are extremely difficult and time consuming, and reduce the time to run standard analyses; Research emerging technologies and implements improvements as appropriate; Assist with team based problem solving through communication and feedback (8D); Direct activities to evaluate new and/or competitive products and improve existing designs; Manage special projects related to technology, sustainability/efficiency, and benchmarking; among other duties.
QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mechanics, Aerospace Engineering, Physics and ten years of experience in the job offered or related. Experience must include: Experience with mathematical modeling and experience with general purpose commercial software applications (ROMAX, ANSYS, nCode DesignLife, and Minitab); experience with Drivetrain Analysis; experience with Drivetrain Analysis- Simulation of bearings and housings for performance and durability including bearing loads, bearing life prediction methods; experience with FEA-Finite Element Analysis; experience with structural linear, non-linear static analysis, thermal analysis, buckling analysis; experience with Fatigue Analysis-Stress life and strain life methods; experience with Optimization-Topology, topography, parametric optimization, robust design, and probabilistic design; experience with Six Sigma Tools-Weibull, Descriptive statistics, DOE, hypothesis testing, DFSS/Green Belt certified; experience with heat transfer analysis; and experience with developing new analytical methods and software processes independently and in a team environment.
