Job Description

Principal UX Design Manager, Digital Transformation Studio

Help us democratize and accelerate external website development with Power Apps Portals

Satya Nadella – “With our Power Platform, we are enabling anyone with a big idea and the passion to make a difference to maximize their impact and transform their organization for the better.”

The rapid growth of the Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Power Virtual Agent, Power BI), is fueled by organizations across the globe investing in leveraging low-code/no-code application and automation development tools to accelerate their digital transformation ambitions.

Power Apps Portals is emerging to be one of the fast-growing capabilities of Power Platform for large organizations, education institutions, and governments around the world to quickly design and launch external data-centric websites. Examples of Power Apps Portal-powered sites include Government-to-citizen services like COVID-19 vaccination scheduling, Citizen 311 services, and Citizen FAQ sites. Other sites powered by Power Apps Portals enable self-service customer returns, product warranty registrations, course registrations in Education, application processing, onboarding, and other customer-facing self-service applications of all kinds.

The Power Apps Portals service continues to grow exponentially as organizations large and small invest in low code to accelerate their digital transformation ambitions. Power Apps Portals is a strategic growth area for Microsoft, but more importantly, it is a disruptive technology enabling CIOs and their teams to work closely with business users to launch these external websites to better serve their customers. The product is a battle-tested SaaS platform to host and administer these websites that have large scale reach, security & compliance, and responsiveness built in for all form factors from desktop to mobile.

Responsibilities

The role

You’re a UX leader and designer (any discipline) who loves to learn, solve challenges, and dream up breakthrough ideas. You've worked on multiple similar projects already, and you're looking for a new adventure. You’re a tireless advocate for the customer—enthusiastic about building and iterating on designs to discover what works best and applying your knowledge to create incredible software products. You're passionate about your interests, and you want to work on projects that will change the world for the better.

You understand how to bring a team together to solve difficult product and customer problems, fixing what's not quite right and smoothing the customer’s journey through the product. You strive to find ways to reduce the number of screens, remove the extraneous, drive users to the next screen or next step, and shorten the path to “Wow!”

In this role, you’ll lead a team of interaction and visual designers to deliver innovative low-code experiences for creating and launching external websites, contribute to product strategy for the next 10x growth cycle, and establish Microsoft as a category leader. You’ll nurture and grow our culture of customer-obsessed, action-oriented product thinkers who “run lean” and embrace a “no jerks” mentality. Your team will partner closely with product managers, technical program managers, and engineers to identify areas of investments that give the biggest ROI, translate them into differentiated experiences that are measured by high usability and user engagement metrics.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • A unique ability to create UX strategies and solutions from the customer point of view

  • Disciplined user of research data and insights to drive decisions and measure success
  • Self-starter who plans and executes work with minimal support
  • Understand agile workflow
  • Deep understanding of UX’s role in the application development process
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, know your strengths (and weaknesses), and have a point of view
  • Possess a decisive bias toward action
  • Proficient at influencing for impact
  • Evangelist of UX among partner teams to raise product quality
  • 12+ years of combined product design, enterprise UX, or relevant agency-side experience.

Skills

  • Passionate curiosity for UX and UI
  • Inclusive design is embraced as a challenge, not a limitation
  • Bias towards simplification of information architecture
  • Understanding and applying customer feedback, research, and telemetry to the design process
  • Research and usability testing
  • Business acumen
  • Collaborative partner
  • Effective storytelling
