The Anti-Money Laundering & Sanctions Analytics team within Fidelity’s Enterprise Compliance group is responsible for the design, development and optimization of the firm’s AML detection and sanctions models.  We partner with colleagues across Fidelity Legal, Risk & Compliance (‘FLRC) to build software and data solutions that support Fidelity’s Financial Crimes Compliance programs.

We’re seeking a talented Principal Data Engineer to assist with the ongoing transformation of the firm’s Financial Crimes Compliance program.  If you’re passionate about leading data science engagements and working with data to help fight financial crime, then this is an excellent opportunity for you!  

The Team

Our team has broad responsibility for Fidelity Investments transaction monitoring and sanctions systems across multiple business units.  Coverage areas include: Cryptocurrency Trading and Blockchain Forensics, Insider Trading, Terrorist Financing, International Money Movement, Global Sanctions & Anti-Corruption, Elder Financial Exploitation, Negative Media screening, Market Manipulation, Securities Fraud, Low-Priced Securities, etc.  Our team leverages machine learning principles and emerging technologies while constantly striving to improve Fidelity’s surveillance and screening capabilities.     

The Purpose of Your Role

As a Principal Data Engineer, you will lead the development of data pipelines that support next generation surveillance solutions on a wide range of AML typologies.

The Responsibilities of this role

Lead the architectural design and implementation of multiple complex projects to support the team’s work on identifying suspicious transactions and customers

Lead the transformation of experimental AI/machine learning algorithms into scalable, robust production-ready processes

Drive the future direction of the team’s technological initiatives

Provide technical leadership, mentoring and training to other team members through code reviews, collaboration, and educational presentations

Define and educate others about software development process best practices

Advise senior management on technical strategy and vendor tools

Explore new technologies, emerging trends and determine their applicability to the team’s use cases; spearhead the adoption of such technologies and trends where appropriate

The Expertise We’re Looking For

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent technical expertise

6+ years of software engineering experience, including prior experience leading and delivering complex data engineering projects

Excellent proficiency in several object-oriented programming languages such as Python / Java or others

Expertise in designing and querying relational databases, e.g. Oracle, Snowflake

Expertise in designing and developing scalable architectures

Expertise in all aspects of the software development cycle from design and implementation to testing, CI/CD, version control management/git, documentation, etc.

Experience working with Snowflake

Experience with AWS, especially EKS, EMR, SageMaker

Experience working with dbt

Experience leading the development of pipelines that support AI/Machine Learning processes

Experience with libraries such as scikit-learn, spacy, NLTK, Stanford NER, pandas, TensorFlow, keras, pytorch, etc.

Experience working with non-relational databases, e.g. MongoDB

Experience with DevOps processes, such as containerization

Familiarity with ML algorithms such as decision trees, , autoencoders/neural networks, linear/logistic regression, clustering, etc.
