The Azure Automated ML (AutoML) team - is looking for a hands-on expert in Computer Vision to lead a team that develops deep learning algorithms for image data.

In the new world we will need way more machine learning models than data science teams can create. Progress towards this AI driven world requires that we make data scientists more productive and open the machine learning model creation to anyone needing a quantitative prediction from data. Automation of machine learning applications is the key to meeting that need. 

The Automated Machine Learning (AutoML) team is part of the Azure AI Platform and is leading the charter for “Democratizing AI for the Intelligent edge and Intelligent cloud”.   

We are looking for a Principal Data & Applied Scientist Manager that specializes and has a passion for developing ML technologies in Computer Vision field. You will be part of this high-energy team and will contribute to and work alongside many talented colleagues on exciting ML problems and manage and mentor data and applied scientists and engineers. Experience having used deep learning in Computer Vision as a main skill on your job is required in this role, as the intuition associated with such experiences can help make our systems naturally easy to use for data scientists. We also believe in learning and growing on the job, so being passionate about the latest developments in ML, Computer Vision and deep learning and a desire to learn is a requirement for this role, so as prior experience in managing team and growing junior people. 

Responsibilities

You will conduct research and development of Automated ML’s modeling capabilities. You will bring knowledge of cutting-edge and industry leading advances in Computer Vision and deep learning and collaborate with experts to further advance it.   

As a leader in this customer-obsessed team, you will engage with consumers of data science solutions, as well as data scientists whose favorite tools we aim to create. You will build the product that solves their data science and ML problems in their full complexity and translate your solutions to automatable methods.  

You will be responsible for managing a small team of both data & applied scientists and engineers to drive customer-inspired innovations in Computer Vision. You and your team will produce impact by taking a holistic ownership of your features, implementing core algorithms, evangelizing and representing them, and writing the production code to integrate them in AutoML products.   

Qualifications

Masters or PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Statistics, Operations Research or related areas (Ph.D. preferred).  

• Outstanding expertise and research experience in Computer Vision and deep learning.
• Experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch, Tensorflow, Keras.
• Strong software development experience in languages such as Python, Java, C++, Scala, or C#
• You will be responsible of both research and implementation, hence extensive experience in coding, ability to read and understand code, and passion for maintaining high quality for your team’s work is required. 
• Team player with excellent problem solving and data analysis skills. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
• 10+ years working experience in machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, etc.
• 2+ years of experience managing a team, mentoring team members, growing them, and delivering results as a team.
