Job Description

The flood risk and coastal management engineering team have delivered substantial flood alleviation and drainage design projects at Godalming, Pocklington, Keadby, York and Kendal for schemes worth over £200M. The schemes involve flood defence walls, large pumping station upgrades and creation of a 1 million cu.m flood impoundment storage area. Several of the schemes have received awards for the innovative designs. We have recently been awarded additional flood alleviation works in the north of England and south Wales.

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of our expansion process to help Capita REI maintain and grow our position as a leading supplier of engineering and environmental services within the UK.

What you’ll be doing:

As part of your role you will take responsibility for providing technical expertise and leading technical delivery on a wide variety of projects,

  • Including asset assessment and management plans
  • Option appraisal, detailed design of civil engineering works and if desired site supervision.
  • Ownership of technical delivery ensuring high quality standards and working with project managers to ensure delivery to budget and programme.
  • You will also be responsible for ensuring the projects you deliver take due regard for the latest Health, Safety and Welfare policies and practices, including working in accordance with the Construction, Design and Management (CDM) Regulations 2015.

What we’re looking for:

As the successful candidate, you will hold a BEng/MEng in a related Engineering field with significant experience in civil, structural or hydraulic engineering.  You will be chartered with a relevant institution (ICE/IStructE) or be able to demonstrate significant progress of working towards chartership. You will be required to drive on behalf of the company to visit clients/sites etc. and therefore a valid UK driving license is essential.

Additional Experience

  • Client Relationship Management and Business Development skills
  • Hydraulic analysis, including weirs and gates discharge capacity; hydraulic jumps; drainage design; scour protection, flood storage, etc.
  • Design of flood defenses: such as retaining walls; earth embankments; soft engineering solutions (NFM/SuDS); flood gates etc.
  • Planning and undertaking asset inspections, including the preparation of safe systems of work
  • Site supervision, including CITB SMSTS qualification
  • Finite element modelling using structural analysis packages such as LUSAS or SAP
  • AutoCAD/Civil3D
  • Use of Micro Drainage to assist with drainage and SuDS Design
