In today's dynamic environment, it is an exciting time to be a part of the research and technology team at Colgate. Our highly technical and innovative team is dedicated to driving growth for Colgate Palmolive in this ever-changing landscape. What role will you play as a member of the Colgate's Research & Development team? As a Postdoctoral Research Scientist, you apply your existing skills in the areas of microbial ecology, oral microbiology, biostatistics and/or related fields to develop a program relating measurements of metabolites in the oral cavity to oral and systemic health. You will interact with internal and external collaborators to develop work plans and meet agreed upon deliverables and timelines. You will be expected to apply your knowledge across diverse projects entailing metagenomics, metatranscriptomics, traditional cell biology and microbiology, SIFTMS and analysis of large data sets.
• Analysis of large data sets with particular attention to identifying correlations and interrelationships among markers in
those data sets.
• Develop methods and tools for analysis of large datasets specifically around the oral microbiome.
• Develop/optimize in vitro methods for the analysis of treatment effects on oral biofilms and how changes in the composition/metabolism of oral biofilms influence oral soft tissues, in particular with regards to inflammatory damage and repair markers.
• Design clinical studies to characterize oral health and the volatile metabolome. Identify signatures of demographic and health conditions related to these findings
• Work directly with partners in Product Development, Knowledge Management, Clinical Sciences, Regulatory Affairs, Product Safety and other departments to support needs related to specific products.
• Identify new research areas within areas of expertise.
o Identify and lead collaboration with relevant external partners.
o Communicate results of research both internally and externally.
• Performs other duties as assigned
• Complies with all policies and standards
• Doctorate Microbiology, biostatistics, biology, biochemistry, or cell biology required.
• Experience in biostatistics or analysis of large datasets and associated analysis tools.
• Experience with 16s rRNA sequencing and other microbiome analysis techniques.
• Strong problem solving skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Strong project management and independent execution.
• Results-oriented and able to effectively generate, analyze, document and interpret data to drive research direction and
meet project goals.
• Good project management skills, including the ability to simultaneously manage multiple project activities, milestones
and timelines.
• Strong communication skills in English (written/verbal)
• Planning/Priority Setting
• At least 1 year of relevant work experience
• Experience with oral health or biofilm-related health conditions.
• Familiarity with coding in Python and/or R.
• Familiarity with mass spectrometry, experience with SIFT-MS beneficial.
