The Experience

The Plant Automation Engineer will use his/her technical expertise to lead manufacturing automation projects from an approach of people, process and systems!

Scope of responsibilities include, but are not limited to: providing technical expertise on automation projects, training of plant personnel on automation systems, system troubleshooting and maintenance, identification and communication of standard methodologies, and developing solutions to system utilization issues. Relationships required include relevant partnerships with manufacturing operations, IT, engineering and quality for system requirements.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead plant automation projects to deliver against Colgate’s Supply Chain Reimagined Strategy. This includes management of all aspects of the implementation including people, process, and systems.
  • Lead (4) controls technicians
  • Implement manufacturing automation systems for all capital projects using Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s)
  • Support plant controls team in developing and maintaining plant controls systems (Wonderware / OPERA)
  • Support plant operations by maintaining process control systems
  • Provide training and sophisticated troubleshooting to the site.
  • Implement standards at the site that ensure global consistency of manufacturing automation and integration systems.
  • Establish and maintain close relationships with:
    • Plant operations team,
    • Plant quality team,
    • Plant FP&R team.
  • Primary contact for local electric utility running: Coordination of utility outages, Management of demand response program, Management of self-assessment tax program and review of monthly electric utility bills.
  • Provide the technical leadership to maintain plant medium voltage and low voltage power distribution systems.
  • Maintain electrical power systems coordination and arc flash study.
  • Work with outside contractors to implement preventative maintenance plans for substations.
  • To provide SCADA support and creation of SCADA screens for new projects.
  • Basic knowledge of SQL databases.
  • Work with plant & outside programmers to support the plant's technical needs for SCADA and Controls Software.
  • Develop and maintain the plant controls network, data storage and user setup.
  • Maintain PLC logic for PSM covered processes in accordance with site policy and procedures.
  • Assist engineering during PHA's.
  • Complete a PSM 100 workshop within one calendar year from hire date.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
  • 5+ years’ experience with engineering, supply chain operations and/or IT Supply Chain.
  • Experience in Industrial Automation: Ability to configure and test plant systems using GE / Rockwell / Siemens PLC’s or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of Industrial Network Communication protocols (Ethernet, DeviceNet, ControlNet, Profibus)
  • Knowledge of manufacturing operations core processes and plant floor equipment and instrumentation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Wonderware Industrial Automation software (SCADA (InTouch), Historian, Archestra) or an equivalent software.
  • Experience in operations management.
  • Experience in systems configuration and maintenance.
  • Basic knowledge of SAP.
  • Knowledge of SQL Databases
