Project Overview

Bechtel is the licensing, engineering, procurement, and construction partner on TerraPower’s Natrium team. Selected by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for its Advanced Reactor Demonstration Program, Natrium is participating in a DOE initiative to re-establish U.S. leadership in nuclear energy that provides matching funding to industry to design and build an operational advanced reactor. TerraPower, a leading advanced generation technology company founded by former Microsoft CEO Bill Gates, will be deploying its 345 MWe sodium fast reactor (SFR), called Natrium. The Natrium plant features an advanced, cost-competitive reactor design that is safer, simpler, easier, and less costly to construct, less expensive to operate, and able to provide energy that is competitive with fossil fuels. It also features an innovative molten salt energy storage system designed to be complementary to solar and wind power by evening out the peaks and valleys in production when the sun is not shining, or the wind is not blowing. With the reactor and energy storage output combined, the plant can produce more than 500 MWe of power.

Other Team Natrium partners include GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy, Energy Northwest, PacifiCorp, and Duke Energy, along with support from a number of national laboratories and universities. This DOE Program has the potential to be the largest funding program for advanced nuclear power in U.S. history and will shape the future of nuclear energy for decades. Role Overview

This position will report to the Plant Design Engineering Group Supervisor.

Responsibilities

3D modeling of piping systems and equipment in a 3D E3D model environment.

Prepare drawings/documents for General Arrangements and piping isometrics drawings.

Assist with coordination of 3D model activities, i.e., input, interference reconciliation, etc. with other physical related disciplines.

Assist with plans and schedules and prepare/maintain design procedures, standards to provide quality design documents.

Interface with stress and pipe support engineers, construction, and suppliers during the preparation of piping designs for the purpose of model/space control, etc.

Perform coordination review of specifications and vendor documents as required.

Ensure adherence to piping codes such as ASME B31.3 or B31.1.

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications

Level 1: AA/AS degree or certification in an engineering curriculum or drafting/design with 3 years of experience, or in lieu of degree, a high school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 7 years of related experience.

Level 2: AA/AS degree or certification in an engineering curriculum or drafting/design with 5 years of experience, or in lieu of degree, a high school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 9 years of related experience.

US citizen or the ability to legally remain in the US without sponsorship.

Minimum Qualifications:

Hands-on experience using a 3D piping design platform such as E3D/PDMS, SmartPlant, PlantSpace, etc.

Basic knowledge & application of ASME B31.1 and/or B31.3 codes.

Preferred Qualifications:

Hands-on use of AVEVA E3D/PDMS for piping design & plant layout.

Prior piping design experience.

Previous Bechtel Engineering project experience.
