PhD Intern-Microbiology

P&G is seeking a microbiologist or chemical/biomedical engineer for a Ph.D. Intern position. The key objective of this internship is to develop methods and technical models to measure and understand microbial community dynamics on skin and the influence of different materials on these dynamics. The specific project work includes:

• Working closely with team members to review literature, IP, and interview internal colleagues to survey the range of available skin mimetic models
• Develop and begin optimization of a model system/prototype for assessing the dynamics of a microbial community on skin
• Assess and model material impacts on these dynamics
• Report findings to team members and key stakeholders with recommendation for next steps

Qualifications

• Ph.D. candidate in Microbiology, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field
• Strong microbiological experience, including history of working with BSL2 organisms and working with bacteria with demonstrated competence in sterile technique, microbial isolation and cultivation
• Basic laboratory quantitative and digital skills
• Experience creating and analyzing human mimetic surfaces preferred
• Knowledge of and/or working experience with the skin microbiome preferred
• Host-microbial interactions and skin physiology experience preferred
• Strong communication skills
